Hypertension Department
Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
1. What Is Hypertension: Hypertension is a chronic disease with a very high prevalence in the population, and the mortality rate from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases caused by hypertension ranks first among the mortality rates for all diseases. Hypertension seriously endangers people’s health and lives. It is not only an independent disease but also an important risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, causing structural and functional changes in and damage to the heart, brain, kidneys, blood vessels, and ocular fundus, thereby leading to related diseases. The prevalence of hypertension in China notably exhibits the phenomenon of “three highs and three lows,” namely, a high prevalence rate, high disability rate, and high mortality rate, together with low awareness, low control rates, and low cure rates. Target-organ damage caused by hypertension has seriously affected quality of life and is known as the “silent killer.” Therefore, effective prevention and active treatment must be initiated at the earliest stage of vascular lesions, as this is the most important means of reducing the incidence of hypertension.
2. Department Introduction: The Department of Hypertension of the Affiliated Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Xinjiang Medical University was established in August 2001 (the 8th month of 2001). It is the only specialty in all of Xinjiang integrating medical care, teaching, and scientific research for the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension through integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. It is also the Xinjiang Institute of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine for Hypertension, a key specialty approved by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and a specialty for the construction of a National Clinical Research Base for Traditional Chinese Medicine. The department has a rational staffing structure and a high-quality professional team integrating medical care, scientific research, and teaching. It currently has 3 doctoral degree holders and 6 master’s degree holders, including 1 doctoral supervisor, 3 master’s supervisors, 1 professor, and 6 chief physicians. The department has successively undertaken 3 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 3 provincial- and ministerial-level projects, and several department- and bureau-level projects, with research funding exceeding 2 million yuan, and has published nearly 100 academic papers in total. The department has consistently adhered to a development direction centered on traditional Chinese medicine and integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine. The combination of Western medicine and distinctive traditional Chinese medicine treatments for hypertension is at an advanced level within Xinjiang. By integrating outpatient care, inpatient treatment, post-discharge follow-up, and health education, the department has established a complete set of procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension.
3. Scope of Diagnosis and Treatment: Western medicine: essential hypertension; screening and differential diagnosis of secondary hypertension; hypertension in special populations; refractory hypertension; resistant hypertension; and hypertension complicated by clinical diseases, including cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes, kidney disease, peripheral vascular disease, hyperlipidemia, hyperuricemia, and others. Traditional Chinese medicine: vertigo; headache; palpitations; chest impediment; stroke; consumptive thirst; insomnia; tinnitus; depressive disorder; cervical impediment; and others.
4. Traditional Chinese Medicine Features: The department provides distinctive traditional Chinese medicine treatments, including tuina, foot reflexology, acupuncture, traditional Chinese medicine herbal packs, auricular acupoint seed pressing, application of medicinal patches to plantar acupoints, traditional Chinese medicine tea bags, traditional Chinese medicine granules, and herbal pastes, achieving significant clinical efficacy. To a certain extent, these treatments can protect against and delay target-organ damage caused by hypertension, including damage to the heart, brain, kidneys, ocular fundus, and blood vessels. For the special population of women with menopausal hypertension, the hospital preparation Xuzao Gengping Powder can actively and effectively control fluctuations in blood pressure during menopause, improve numerous clinical symptoms, and enhance quality of life.
5. Service Mission: Leverage the advantages of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine and wholeheartedly care for your health.
