Oncology Department I
Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
The hospital’s Department of Oncology I has long been engaged in comprehensive clinical prevention and treatment of tumors through an integrated approach combining Chinese and Western medicine, with distinctive features of traditional Chinese medicine, a well-balanced personnel structure, and clear clinical strengths, and holds a leading position among hospitals of traditional Chinese medicine in Northwest China. Within medical oncology departments throughout the autonomous region, it has certain advantages, and its influence extends to neighboring countries in Central Asia. The department integrates medical care, teaching, and research; has outpatient and inpatient services; and has also opened a chemotherapy clinic, meeting the diagnostic and treatment needs of different patients.
Currently, the department has a well-balanced personnel structure and is staffed by capable, vigorous, and energetic professionals. It has 9 physicians, 1 doctoral supervisor, and 7 master’s supervisors. Of these, 4 are chief physicians, 4 are deputy chief physicians, and 1 is an attending physician. It has 1 mentor for the transmission of academic experience in traditional Chinese medicine (a nationally renowned senior traditional Chinese medicine physician), 2 National Outstanding Clinical Talents in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and 3 PhDs. The department has undertaken multiple national- and provincial/ministerial-level scientific research projects, completed multiple continuing-education programs, and obtained multiple technical patents. It has 46 approved beds, nearly 11,500 outpatient visits per year, and more than 1,900 patients admitted annually.
The department mainly provides chemotherapy for malignant solid tumors, including neoadjuvant chemotherapy (preoperative chemotherapy), postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy, and radical tumor treatment. It combines traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation with disease differentiation, and Uyghur-medicine humoral differentiation with the principle of treating disease before its onset; it administers Chinese herbal decoctions orally and by enema, applies Chinese medicinal powders and paste preparations externally, and supplements these with traditional Chinese medicine physiotherapy, immunotherapy, psychological counseling, acupuncture, massage, sound therapy, herbal paste formulas, foot baths, and other treatments. These treatments significantly improve the clinical symptoms of tumor patients, enhance patients’ bodily immunity, increase their own antitumor capacity, prolong survival, reduce the related toxic and adverse effects caused by radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and improve quality of life.
The department provides new tumor diagnostic technologies, including B-ultrasound- and CT-guided needle biopsy, Bushi fiber immune-function testing, ultrathin cell examination, and novel immunocytological examination. The department focuses closely on medical care, teaching, and research and strives to explore the treasures of traditional Chinese medicine. It has now established broad contacts with many renowned domestic tumor-treatment institutions and research centers, regularly invites nationally renowned oncology experts to the department for consultations, and jointly determines treatment plans, enabling patients treated in the department to receive the best treatment plan. The department’s distinctive areas of treatment, in which it has particular diagnostic and therapeutic strengths, include stratified rehabilitation treatment after breast cancer surgery, recurrence-prevention treatment after lung cancer surgery using an integrated Chinese-Western medicine spleen-strengthening and yang-warming method, advantageous traditional Chinese medicine treatment after chemotherapy for gastrointestinal tumors to reduce toxicity, enhance efficacy, and reverse drug resistance, recurrence-prevention treatment for liver cancer and other tumors using the spleen-strengthening and yang-warming method, and advantageous traditional Chinese medicine treatment for advanced tumors using a stomach-qi-protecting method to improve quality of life.
All medical and nursing staff of Department of Oncology I will follow the development philosophy of “integrity, precision, progress, and innovation,” achieve individualized treatment on the basis of standardization, and wholeheartedly serve every patient.
