Anaesthesiology

The Department of Anesthesiology of the Women’s Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, is a clinical key specialty of Zhejiang Province, as well as the province’s clinical, teaching and research center for obstetric and gynecological anesthesia and analgesia, with more than 100,000 anesthesia cases annually. The department currently has more than 100 anesthesiology medical and nursing staff, including 4 chief physicians and 9 deputy chief physicians, as well as 4 doctoral supervisors and 5 master’s supervisors. The department is the affiliated unit of the Zhejiang Provincial Labor Analgesia Technology Guidance Center, an obstetric anesthesia training base and a volume therapy training base recognized by the Anesthesiology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association and the Anesthesiologist Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, and the leading unit of the Pan-Yangtze River Delta Obstetric Anesthesia Alliance. The Department of Anesthesiology is equipped with world-class anesthesia and monitoring equipment, as well as various emergency rescue devices, such as Dräger anesthesia machines and Datex-Ohmeda multifunctional anesthesia monitors; various anesthesia-depth monitors (BIS, entropy index, SPI, auditory evoked potential monitor; TOF; respiratory loop P-V monitoring; invasive circulatory monitoring); portable ultrasound machines; rapid blood gas and electrolyte monitors; fiberoptic bronchoscopes; video laryngoscopes; light wands; TCI pumps; cardiac function monitors and so on. Standardized diagnosis and treatment protocols have been established for obstetric and gynecological surgical anesthesia, perioperative management of critically ill patients, labor analgesia management and postoperative pain treatment. In particular, the department has accumulated rich clinical experience in critical obstetrics. The success rate of rescue for women with massive obstetric hemorrhage and amniotic fluid embolism is over 95%. It has developed its own distinctive approach to labor analgesia, participated in the China Labor Analgesia Tour, promoted labor analgesia throughout the country and ensured the discipline’s leading position in this field.
