Laboratory Medicine

The Department of Laboratory Medicine centers on clinical laboratory testing and diagnosis, undertakes various tasks including teaching and research, and is a comprehensive clinical medical laboratory integrating medical services, teaching, and research. It also houses the Paternity Testing Laboratory of the Judicial Appraisal Center of Zhejiang University. The laboratory was constructed in accordance with national biosafety standards and has multiple subspecialty laboratories, including Clinical Hematology, Clinical Body Fluidology, Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Microbiology, and Clinical Molecular Diagnostics. More than 400 routine clinical testing items are carried out, covering the medical laboratory testing items specified in the “Standards for the Evaluation of National Tertiary Grade-A Hospitals,” and the laboratory is committed to meeting the needs for laboratory diagnosis in clinical screening, diagnosis, treatment, and women’s health care. The Department of Laboratory Medicine adheres to the quality policy of being scientific, accurate, efficient, and continuously improving; employs internationally advanced testing methods; has reliable, high-quality instruments and equipment; and emphasizes comprehensive, end-to-end quality management processes. The department has obtained ISO 15189 accreditation and is a national-level standardized residency training base for laboratory medicine, a clinical gene amplification testing training base of Zhejiang Province, and a demonstration laboratory of Zhejiang Province. It has achieved excellent results in the external quality assessment activities organized by the Ministry of Health Clinical Laboratory Center and the Zhejiang Provincial Clinical Laboratory Center. It has distinctive specialty characteristics and authority in the testing and research of reproductive endocrine hormones, pathogens of female reproductive tract infections, teratogenic pathogen infections, and eugenics and healthy reproduction, and enjoys a high reputation in the industry.
