Preventive Dentistry
In 1982, the West China School of Stomatology of Sichuan University was the first in China to establish a Department of Oral Preventive Medicine and a Preventive Clinic. The main services of this clinical department include the treatment and filling of caries, pulpitis, and periapical periodontitis in adults and children; various imported light-cured composite resin filling and restorative procedures for caries of anterior and posterior teeth and defects of dental tissues; and basic preventive treatment for periodontal diseases, such as ultrasonic dental cleaning. The clinic is currently equipped with a series of internationally advanced specialized devices, including a fiber-optic diagnostic instrument, a laser demineralization diagnostic instrument, a quantitative light-guided caries detector, an electrical impedance caries diagnostic instrument, a dentin hypersensitivity diagnostic instrument, and a halitosis diagnostic instrument. On this basis, it also provides patients with preventive services including individual and group education on oral health knowledge and health-care measures, desensitization treatment for dentin sensitivity, light-cured pit and fissure sealants for young permanent molars and primary molars, topical fluoride application to prevent caries in the permanent teeth of primary and secondary school students and the primary teeth of children, non-traumatic painless fillings for early caries, and the detection, prevention, and treatment of oral malodor.
