The Department of Rheumatology and Immunology of West China Hospital, Sichuan University, is a National Clinical Key Specialty, as well as a regional diagnosis and treatment center for complex and critical rheumatic and immunological diseases, with well-developed infrastructure and strong technical capabilities, receiving more than 150,000 outpatient visits annually, providing 84 specialty inpatient beds, and discharging more than 3,000 patients annually, with patients with complex and critical conditions accounting for more than 30%. It has ranked sixth for 5 consecutive years in the Fudan University China Hospital Specialty Reputation Ranking. The Department of Rheumatology and Immunology of West China Hospital, Sichuan University, is one of the flagships of rheumatology in China. In recent years, the specialty has focused on improving service standards, strengthening the research, development, and translation into practice of innovative medical technologies, developing clinical care, education, and research in parallel, and extending its influence nationwide, while maintaining close cooperative relationships with many internationally renowned hospitals/medical schools, including the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. At the same time, the department is also an important base in China for undergraduate medical, graduate, and postgraduate education in rheumatology, is the earliest institution in western China authorized to confer a doctoral degree in rheumatology, accepts physicians for further training year-round from more than 10 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions, has trained a large number of rheumatologists with high ethical standards and outstanding professional expertise, driven the establishment and development of numerous rheumatology disciplines, and benefited many patients.
