Prosthodontics

The Department of Prosthodontics at the Stomatological Hospital Affiliated with Tongji University is the department in which the National Clinical Key Specialty Project is based. Several of its physicians have studied abroad, and together they form a dental professional team with a high level of clinical care and excellent service. The department has internationally advanced equipment and instruments, including an all-ceramic CAD/CAM chairside system, a computerized shade-matching device, a T-Scan occlusal analyzer, dental loupes, and more. It provides diagnostic and treatment services including routine restoration of various tooth defects, fixed prosthodontic restoration, implant prosthesis restoration, removable partial denture restoration, complete denture restoration, and restoration with various attachment-retained dentures, overdentures, and telescopic crown dentures. Among these, esthetic dental restoration is a major specialty. Guided by a minimally invasive philosophy, the department uses advanced computer-aided design/manufacturing technology, a computerized shade-matching device, and dental loupes, selects high-quality all-ceramic materials, and widely performs restorations such as veneers, inlays, onlays, all-ceramic crowns, and adhesive bridges, effectively restoring patients’ esthetics and function. Occlusal reconstruction is the primary restorative method for patients with severe tooth wear and is also one of the department’s major specialties. The department has introduced a T-Scan occlusal analyzer, a fully adjustable articulator, and other equipment, enabling it to provide patients with rapid, precise, and comfortable restorations.

The department currently undertakes multiple projects at the national, provincial, and ministerial levels, and also undertakes teaching and training for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. It has published more than 100 SCI papers and other high-level papers. The department is currently the institutional home of a standing committee member of the Prosthodontics Committee of the Chinese Stomatological Association, a deputy chairperson of the Prosthodontics Society of the Shanghai Stomatological Association, and the chair-elect of the Medical Aesthetics and Cosmetic Medicine Branch of the Shanghai Medical Association.
