Gynaecological Oncology
Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Tongji Hospital was founded in the 1940s by Mr. Jin Wenqi, a deceased pioneer of obstetrics and gynecology in China and a national first-grade professor. Under the leadership of successive discipline leaders, including Professors Cai Guiru, Luo Lilan, Gu Meijiao, Qi Xiumei and Ma Ding, it has gradually formed an overall model of complete disciplines, rational structure and comprehensive development. The specialty is one of the first batch of units in the country authorized to confer master's and doctoral degrees, and is also one of the first batch of three national key disciplines of obstetrics and gynecology. In short, over nearly seventy years of continuous development and through the unremitting efforts of generations of Tongji people, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Tongji Hospital has established its advantageous disciplinary position nationwide. In 1975 Tongji Hospital took the lead in establishing a gynecological oncology specialty in the Central South region, and in 1977 it created the gynecological oncology laboratory. The gynecological oncology specialty is now the Central China Academic Training Center of the Gynecological Oncology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and the laboratory under it is the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education for “Tumor Invasion and Metastasis” of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and the Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory for “Tumor Invasion and Metastasis”. The main equipment and instruments currently available include: Thinprep liquid-based thin-layer slide preparation system, computer artificial intelligence-based rapid cervical cancer screening and diagnosis system (CCT), colposcopy diagnosis system, LEEP therapeutic apparatus, blood lead detector, CO2 incubator, biological microscope, slide flow cytometer, PCR instrument, microplate reader, laser capture instrument, ultrahigh-speed centrifuge, electrophoresis gel analysis system including a secondary electrophoresis apparatus, inverted microscope and micromanipulation system, and many other high-precision instruments and equipment. Slide flow cytometer. The specialty has 3 professors, 6 associate professors and 5 attending physicians, of whom 10 hold doctoral degrees. There are 23 nurses, 4 technicians, 2 workers and 1 secretary. The current discipline leader, Professor Ma Ding, is one of the renowned clinical experts in obstetrics and gynecology with outstanding achievements in China, and was the earliest in China's obstetrics and gynecology field to obtain the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and to serve as a “973” chief scientist. He currently serves as director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the national key discipline, director of the Key Laboratory of Tumor Invasion and Metastasis of the Ministry of Education, and director of the Hubei Provincial Clinical Medical Research Center for Gynecological Oncology. He has a certain influence and reputation in the obstetrics and gynecology circles and in the field of tumor research at home and abroad. Ma Ding, born in April 1957, was the first recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in the obstetrics and gynecology field (2000) and chief scientist of the “973 Tumor Invasion and Metastasis” project (2002), and served as director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Tongji Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology for 20 years. He is currently chairman of the Gynecological Oncology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, executive director of the China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Health Care and concurrently chairman of its Women and Children Professional Committee, chairman of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Physicians Branch of the Hubei Medical Doctor Association, director of the National Clinical Research Center for Obstetric and Gynecological Diseases, and director of the Key Laboratory of Tumor Invasion and Metastasis of the Ministry of Education. Main achievements: Professor Ma Ding has persisted in front-line clinical work for more than 30 years and has a solid theoretical foundation and rich clinical practice experience; he is skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of gynecological tumors and gynecological diseases, has performed more than ten thousand obstetric and gynecological operations, and is expert in gynecological surgery, endoscopic surgery and robotic surgery. At the same time he attaches importance to systematic research on major difficult problems in clinical practice and has made outstanding contributions to the prevention and treatment of gynecological malignant tumors and to clinical research on curbing tumor metastasis: 1) rational application of neoadjuvant chemotherapy and improvement of surgical methods to reduce damage to the function of women's reproductive organs, making it possible to preserve the reproductive function of young patients with gynecological malignant tumors; 2) discovery of the high-risk susceptibility genes of cervical cancer in Chinese people and of the integration sites of the HPV oncogenic virus, establishment of an early-warning model for cervical cancer and new strategies for early prevention and treatment, raising the level of cervical cancer prevention and treatment in China; 3) discovery and identification of tumor metastasis-specific targeting molecules and targeting peptides, and timely clinical translation and application of the innovative results — the tumor metastasis targeting marker peptide TMTP1 has been used in clinical diagnosis, and the ADV-TK anti-tumor-metastasis preparation (a national Class I new drug) has entered phase III clinical trials. He is currently responsible for chief-editing China's guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of gynecological malignant tumors, and has chief-edited the national eight-year medical student planned textbook Obstetrics and Gynecology and the English edition of Obstetrics and Gynecology. As first author or corresponding author he has published 486 papers, including more than 163 papers in SCI journals represented by Nature Genetics, J Clin Invest, J Exp Med and J Nat Can Invest, with a total impact factor of 612.7 points, cited by others 4,262 times in total, and cited by others 2,630 times by international journals such as Lancet. He has led the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Tongji Hospital to obtain the national key discipline twice, to obtain the National Key Clinical Specialty of the Ministry of Health in 2010, and to obtain the National Clinical Research Center for Obstetric and Gynecological Diseases in 2014. Personal awards: 2004 Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions of the Ministry of Health; 2010 honorary title of “National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Worker”; 2010 “Wu Jieping–Paul Janssen Award”; 2015 Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress; 2015 National Health and Family Planning Commission, Health News…
