The current department director is Chief Physician Wu Chengliang.
The department undertakes clinical, teaching, and research work in thyroid and breast diseases, and is committed to the early diagnosis, standardized and individualized surgical treatment, and comprehensive treatment of thyroid cancer and breast cancer. It currently has advanced diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, including a mammography unit, color Doppler ultrasound, 3.0 T magnetic resonance imaging, an ultrasonic scalpel, an energy platform, Storz and Olympus high-definition electronic laparoscopic systems, a nerve monitoring device, and a minimally invasive breast rotary-cutting system.
The department currently performs thyroid lobectomy, total thyroidectomy, combined radical surgery for thyroid cancer and multifunction-preserving cervical lymph node dissection, compartmental neck dissection, synchronous bilateral neck dissection for bilateral thyroid cancer, scarless completely endoscopic thyroid surgery (including trans-thoracic-breast/trans-areolar, transoral, and transaxillary thyroid surgery, endoscopic lateral cervical lymph node dissection, etc.), endoscope-assisted thyroid surgery through a small cervical incision, and surgery for parathyroid tumors, among others.
It performs wire-localized excisional biopsy of occult lesions under mammographic or B-ultrasound guidance; minimally invasive rotary-cutting surgery for breast masses; excision of multiple benign breast masses and benign masses distant from the areola through a circumareolar incision; endoscopic subcutaneous mastectomy; endoscopic breast-conserving radical surgery; endoscopic excision of accessory breasts; modified radical mastectomy, radical mastectomy, breast-conserving radical surgery, nipple-sparing modified radical mastectomy for breast cancer, sentinel lymph node biopsy for breast cancer, and the application of oncoplastic techniques and local flap techniques in breast surgery; as well as autologous and prosthetic breast reconstruction after mastectomy.
It also performs surgery for parotid gland tumors, submandibular gland tumors, skin cancer, melanoma, and certain soft-tissue tumors.
The department has accumulated extensive clinical experience in neoadjuvant chemotherapy, postoperative chemotherapy, precision chemotherapy guided by genetic testing, endocrine therapy, and targeted therapy for breast cancer, as well as comprehensive treatment for thyroid cancer. The integrated use of traditional Chinese and Western medicine in treating breast and thyroid diseases has achieved good results. Manual breast drainage combined with traditional Chinese and Western medicine is used to treat lactational mastitis; comprehensive methods including traditional Chinese and Western medicine are used to treat lymphedema after breast cancer surgery, with good therapeutic results.
Emphasis on minimally invasive, aesthetic, and precise treatment is a distinctive feature of the department.
The department has led or participated in the completion of multiple national-, provincial-, and department- or bureau-level projects, and has published dozens of medical papers in domestic and international medical journals.
