Neurosurgery
The Department of Neurosurgery at Zhejiang Provincial Tongde Hospital has 33 healthcare staff, including ten attending physicians, ten staff with senior and two with intermediate professional titles, three doctoral and six master's students, and 20 nurses.
After nearly 20 years of development, the hospital describes the department as the province's largest innovation and research platform for brain disorders combining Chinese and Western medicine, a provincial key discipline in integrative medicine, and a Zhejiang integrative functional neurosurgery center for epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm and other conditions. It also treats brain tumors, cerebrovascular diseases, severe brain trauma and other common, acute and critical conditions.
Equipment includes Philips cerebral angiography equipment for vascular interventions, a 3D-DSA digital workstation, 256-channel video EEG, Zeiss and Leica operating microscopes, a full set of Aesculap neurosurgical microsurgical instruments, a ventricular endoscope, a stereotactic instrument and intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring. A 128-slice dual-source CT and 3.0 T MRI support brain imaging.
Drawing on treatment models for functional neurosurgery, brain tumors and cerebrovascular disease, the department has developed an integrated neurological care approach and a minimally invasive neurosurgery center involving neurosurgery, neurology, imaging, neurophysiology and neurointervention. Its integrative specialty platforms focus on epilepsy surgery, trigeminal and facial muscle conditions, brain tumor surgery and cerebrovascular surgery.
It maintains longstanding clinical and academic links with Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Shanghai Huashan Hospital, Taipei Medical University Hospital and the neurology department of Temple University in the United States, and teaches for several medical universities. It has organized national courses on integrative treatment of severe brain injury, advanced Zhejiang courses on integrative epilepsy diagnosis and treatment and the establishment of the Zhejiang integrative epilepsy center, and the Zhejiang integrative neurosurgery conference. It has received one national utility-model patent, led several research projects at departmental or higher level, published more than ten SCI-indexed papers and presented its research repeatedly at national neurosurgery conferences.
