The Department of Geriatrics of Zhejiang Provincial Tongde Hospital was established in 2000 and has developed into a department with 4 wards. Its directors are Chief Physicians Ni Jianliang and Chen Xingli, and Associate Chief Physician Zhang Ying.

It is the first department in Zhejiang Province established to provide diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation for senile dementia. As a center for the integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment of senile dementia in Zhejiang Province, the department integrates medical care, health care, teaching, and scientific research. It has a total of 87 medical staff, including 19 doctors, 7 with senior professional titles, and 5 with intermediate professional titles. It has 200 approved beds, more than 8,000 outpatient visits annually, and more than 2,200 inpatients admitted annually. It is equipped with advanced devices, including a chronic cerebellar electrical stimulation treatment device, 3.0 MRI, 24-hour ambulatory electroencephalography, an ECG monitor, and a neuromuscular electrical stimulation treatment device. The department provides chronic cerebellar electrical stimulation, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, and pattern-based treatment of geriatric diseases integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine.

Specialty clinics for senile dementia, vascular dementia, geriatric mental disorders, schizophrenia, depression, and other specialized diseases have been established. The department specializes in the integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine diagnosis and treatment of various dementias, as well as geriatric schizophrenia, depression, and other conditions. In recent years, it has undertaken 6 national-level projects, 6 provincial- and ministerial-level projects, and more than 20 department- and bureau-level projects; it has published more than 70 papers, including 20 SCI papers, with a total impact factor of 42.68 points. It has received 1 Zhejiang Provincial Medical and Health Science and Technology Award.
