The Gastrointestinal Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center and the Hernia and Abdominal Wall Surgery Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Zhejiang Provincial Tongde Hospital have many renowned experts from throughout the province and the country. They are dedicated to the diagnosis, surgical treatment, and clinical research of gastrointestinal diseases (especially gastrointestinal tumors), pancreatic diseases, and abdominal wall hernias. The centers can perform all types of routine open and laparoscopic operations in this field, particularly laparoscopic radical surgery for gastrointestinal cancer, pancreatic tumor resection, hernia repair, and bariatric surgery, and have a high academic standing in Zhejiang Province.

Achievements in department development (educational and scientific achievements, academic standing, etc.): The department has led or participated in more than 10 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Health, and the Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The projects received one second prize and one third prize for scientific and technological progress in Zhejiang Province, two first prizes for medical and health science and technology in Zhejiang Province, and one second prize and one third prize. The project “Basic and Clinical Research on Non-transectional Roux-en-Y Distal Jejunal Pouch Reconstruction after Total Gastrectomy for Gastric Cancer” received the 2014 Zhejiang Provincial Medical and Health Science and Technology First Prize.
