Psychosomatic Medicine Department
The Department of Psychosomatic Medicine of Zhejiang Provincial Tongde Hospital was established in 1990. To date, it has developed into a department with 4 wards. The department heads are: Director Ma Yongchun, Deputy Director Chen Zhengxin, and Deputy Director Ren Zhibin.
The department integrates medical care, health care, teaching, and research. It has a total of 79 medical staff members, including 26 physicians and 7 staff members with senior professional titles. It has 183 approved beds, receives 30,000 outpatient visits annually, and admits more than 1,800 inpatients on average each year. It is equipped with advanced devices, including an autonomic nervous system function tester, biofeedback therapy equipment, and an EEG monitor. The department operates a specialized insomnia outpatient clinic and a specialized outpatient clinic for depression. It specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders (including depression and dysthymic disorder), neuroses (including generalized anxiety, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, phobias, somatoform disorders, and neurasthenia), hysteria, stress-related disorders, eating disorders, nonorganic sleep disorders, some organic brain mental disorders, mental disorders associated with physical diseases, and mental disorders in children, among other conditions.
At present, the department has gradually established and developed an integrated treatment model centered on biological treatment combined with psychotherapy. Biological treatment includes advanced pharmacotherapy, traditional Chinese medicine treatment, and various adjunctive physical therapies (such as biofeedback therapy and brain function health-care treatment). In particular, it has extensive experience in the integrated treatment of various mental disorders with Chinese and Western medicine. In addition, different psychotherapies are adopted according to each patient’s specific circumstances, including psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, group psychotherapy, and hypnotherapy. The ward psychotherapists have received continuous formal psychotherapy training through an advanced psychotherapy training program jointly conducted by China and Germany. For patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder, an integrated Chinese and Western medicine therapy—acupoint stimulation regulation—is used in particular and has achieved good therapeutic effects. In recent years, the department has undertaken 6 national-level projects, 7 provincial- and ministerial-level projects, and more than 10 departmental- and bureau-level projects; it has published more than 50 papers, including 5 SCI papers, with a total impact factor of 9.75. It has received 1 Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Award, 1 Zhejiang Provincial Medical and Health Science and Technology Award, and 1 Zhejiang Provincial Medical and Health Technology Award.
