Refractive Surgery Center
The Refractive Surgery Center of Tianjin Eye Hospital was established in 1994. The hospital describes it as one of the first five myopia treatment centers approved by China's former Ministry of Health. It reports more than 10,000 operations annually. The hospital states that it began PRK in 1994 and FS-LASIK in 2009, and performed China's first minimally invasive SMILE procedure in 2011. It describes the center as a SMILE training center for China and the Asia-Pacific region.
The center lists chief and associate chief physicians and technical staff, many with doctoral degrees. The hospital names honorary hospital president Professor Wang Yan as chair of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association's refractive surgery committee and reports that he led 2024 evidence-based guidelines for keratorefractive lenticule extraction. It reports four Tianjin science and technology progress first prizes and the training of more than 100 master's and doctoral students.
Procedures listed include SMILE, femtosecond LASIK, transepithelial PRK, phakic intraocular lens implantation (ICL), corneal cross-linking (CXL), refractive surgery combined with preventive cross-linking (Xtra), and wavefront- or corneal-topography-guided personalized procedures. The hospital describes preoperative screening and examinations. Historical firsts, rankings and other achievements are reported by the hospital.
