Thoracic Surgery

I. Department Introduction

The Department of Thoracic Surgery of Liaoning Provincial People’s Hospital was established in 1985. It was one of the earliest specialized departments of thoracic surgery established in Liaoning Province. It was founded by Professor Li Ting Min, a renowned cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon in Liaoning Province, and has successively been headed by four department directors: Li Ting Min, Zhang Yu Wen, Wang Zhe Sheng, and Wang Zhen Yuan.

Through the continuous efforts of several generations, the Department of Thoracic Surgery has now developed into a thoracic disease diagnosis and treatment center with considerable influence within the province. In addition to routinely performing various thoracic surgery procedures, the department has continuously conducted specialized research, expanded its professional and technical capabilities, and developed and implemented a variety of new technologies. In particular, the technologies introduced in recent years—including CT-guided precise localization of small pulmonary nodules, single-incision-port video-assisted thoracoscopic radical resection of lung cancer, video-assisted thoracoscopic radical resection of esophageal cancer, I125 radioactive seed implantation for the treatment of advanced lung cancer and pulmonary metastatic cancer, and microwave ablation for nodular lesions in the lungs—have all remained at the leading level in the province. At present, the Department of Thoracic Surgery has 5 chief physicians, 3 deputy chief physicians, 1 master’s supervisor, 8 master’s students; 4 doctors and 1 master.
