I. Department Introduction

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is a traditional clinical department of Liaoning Provincial People’s Hospital. Since its establishment in the early period of the hospital’s founding, it has developed vigorously. Over the past nearly 10 years, both its technical strength and academic standing within Liaoning Province have improved substantially. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has participated in 3 relevant national-level scientific research projects, as well as more than 7 projects including Liaoning Province science and technology research projects and Liaoning Province natural science infrastructure projects. It has received 1 second prize for scientific and technological progress from Liaoning Province, 1 second prize in the 2010 Liaoning Provincial Federation of Social Sciences awards, and 2 first prizes for scientific and technological progress from Shenyang City. More than 30 papers have been published in national-level journals and core journals. There are currently 59 medical and nursing staff members, including 10 chief physicians, 5 associate chief physicians, 2 attending physicians, 4 resident physicians, 1 doctoral student, and 12 master’s students. There are currently 76 beds, including 46 gynecology beds and 30 obstetrics beds.

Over the past ten years, the Department of Gynecology has vigorously developed laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery and is capable of performing Grade IV laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures. At the same time, it has further consolidated and improved traditional vaginal and open surgeries. Its comprehensive diagnosis and treatment capabilities for gynecologic malignant tumors have reached an advanced level within the province. Over the past 5 years, the treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction has become increasingly mature, with treatment ranging systematically and on a large scale from postpartum rehabilitation to surgery for severe dysfunction. The gynecology outpatient department has focused on visible, painless family-planning procedures, and its standards for colposcopy diagnosis and treatment comply with national standards.

The Department of Obstetrics integrates medical care, teaching, and healthcare, and possesses comprehensive capabilities for managing difficult cases and treating critically ill and emergency patients. While actively advocating painless childbirth, the Department of Obstetrics focuses on the standardized diagnosis and treatment of gestational diabetes mellitus and thyroid diseases complicating pregnancy. An expectant-mothers’ school has been established in the outpatient department to provide health education. In 2015, the Department of Obstetrics was rated as a key specialty development project of Liaoning Province.
