Laser Myopia Treatment Center
The Department of Laser Myopia Treatment was established in 1998 and is the earliest medical institution in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to perform laser surgery for myopia. The department currently has 11 medical and nursing staff members, including 3 doctoral degree holders, 1 master’s degree holder, 1 doctoral supervisor, 2 master’s supervisors, 1 chief superintendent nurse, 1 deputy chief superintendent nurse, and 8 optometrists, engineers, and other staff members. A total of 31 postgraduate students have been trained. After 26 years of development and improvement, the department has cultivated an experienced and highly skilled professional optometry team and accumulated extensive clinical experience in ophthalmic optometry. It performs advanced corneal refractive surgeries practiced in China and abroad, including LASIK, FS-LASIK, Epi-LASIK, SBK, PTK, and various types of corneal refractive surgery guided by individualized topography, wavefront aberrations, or Q-value. It also conducts keratoconus screening; medical optometry for various refractive errors (including myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism); and the diagnosis and treatment of strabismus and amblyopia, low vision, and dry eye disease. The department conducts myopia prevention and control as well as public science outreach and free-clinic services. It has been approved as the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Engineering Research Center for Optometry and Vision Science, the Teaching and Research Office of Optometry Technology, and the Myopia Prevention and Treatment Center for Optometry. In teaching, it undertakes the training of students majoring in optometry technology and postgraduate students. It has been approved for more than 60 scientific research projects of various types (including 3 National Natural Science Foundation of China projects), won 26 science and education awards (including 1 each of the Provincial First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress and the National Teaching Bronze Award, as well as 3 provincial second prizes), and published more than 180 articles, among other achievements. Many individuals hold positions in multiple national- and autonomous-region-level academic societies. All medical and nursing staff in the department, adhering to the principle of “self-improvement and serving the public,” insist on advancing medical care, scientific research, and teaching in parallel, pursuing comprehensive development, contributing to the development of optometry in the autonomous region, and bringing good news to patients with refractive errors.
