Cardiac and Great Vessel Surgery
The Department of Cardiac and Great Vessel Surgery was founded in 1960. It is the cardiac and great vessel surgery ward of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Cardiovascular Disease Institute and the largest center for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular surgical diseases in Inner Mongolia; at present it admits about 1,500 patients per year and performs more than 600 cardiac and vascular operations annually. Approved by the Ministry of Education, the department began independently recruiting master's students in 2004 and holds the authority to confer master's degrees. It has 52 beds and an independent postoperative cardiac surgery intensive care unit (cardiac surgery ICU). The department has a professional technical team that has received comprehensive, systematic, and formal medical education and high-quality cardiovascular surgical training. It currently has 14 physicians: 7 chief physicians, 4 associate chief physicians, and 3 attending physicians; 3 hold doctoral degrees in cardiac surgery, 2 are doctoral candidates, and 8 hold master's degrees; there are 27 nurses and 3 assistant nurses; 1 chief nurse, 3 deputy chief nurses, and 7 nurse supervisors. In 2007 it was approved by the National Health Commission as the only heart transplantation center in Inner Mongolia. In 2015 it became a member of the cardiovascular surgery clinical research alliance of Fuwai Hospital, the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases. It has established close cooperation with the cardiac and great vessel surgery departments of renowned national cardiovascular hospitals such as Beijing Anzhen Hospital. The department actively participates in 6 research projects led by Fuwai Hospital and Anzhen Hospital under the national "12th Five-Year" and "13th Five-Year" Science and Technology Support Programs, national major science and technology projects, and special public-welfare industry research projects of the National Health Commission; it undertakes 8 provincial-level research projects of Inner Mongolia and has won 6 second prizes of the Inner Mongolia Medical Association Science and Technology Award; it also submits data to the Chinese Cardiac Surgery Registry and the Congenital Heart Disease Interventional Treatment Registry. In July 2020, it was designated by the National Cardiovascular Disease Quality Control Center as the lead unit for quality control of cardiovascular surgery in Inner Mongolia.
