Hepatobiliary Surgery

Hepatobiliary Surgery is one of the first institutions approved by the State Education Commission to train postgraduate students for master's degrees and is currently one of the strongest hepatobiliary surgery departments in the autonomous region, with the largest number of beds. Its clinical medical work covers specialties including hepatic surgery, biliary surgery, pancreatic surgery, transplant surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and surgical nutrition. In 2012, it was designated a National Key Clinical Specialty; in 2008, a Leading Discipline of the Autonomous Region; and in 1998, the Health Department of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region awarded it the title “Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Diagnosis and Treatment Center.” This department specializes in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, excels in the surgical diagnosis and treatment and minimally invasive treatment of difficult and complex diseases, and performs several thousand hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery procedures annually. Hepatic Surgery: Following the theoretical and technical system of precision liver resection, the department performs a series of highly challenging radical liver resection procedures, including standard left and right hemihepatectomy, anatomical liver segment resection, middle hepatectomy, three-lobe hepatectomy, combined resection of multiple liver segments, and caudate lobectomy, achieving good long-term outcomes. It also has extensive experience in shunt and devascularization procedures for portal hypertension. Biliary Surgery: In addition to routinely performing operations such as radical resection of cholangiocarcinoma, pancreaticoduodenectomy, resection of cancers of the pancreatic body and tail, and radical resection of gallbladder cancer, its surgical treatment of complex biliary diseases, such as intrahepatic bile duct stones, radical resection of hilar cholangiocarcinoma combined with hemihepatectomy, and surgical treatment of various complex biliary strictures and congenital choledochal cysts, is at a leading level in the region. Pancreatic Surgery: Besides routinely performing pancreaticoduodenectomy and resection of the pancreatic body and tail, it also performs pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy, extended radical resection of pancreatic head cancer, radical resection of pancreatic cancer with resection and reconstruction of the portal vein segment infiltrated by the cancer, partial resection of the pancreatic head, middle-segment pancreatectomy, pancreatic duct incision with stone extraction and pancreaticojejunostomy, enucleation of islet cell tumors, and surgical treatment of severe hemorrhage and necrotizing pancreatitis, among a series of highly challenging operations, reaching a leading level in the region. Minimally Invasive Surgery: It performs new techniques including laparoscopic hepatectomy, splenectomy, resection of the pancreatic body and tail and removal of benign pancreatic tumors, common bile duct exploration and stone extraction, endoscopic treatment of biliary strictures and stones, and radiofrequency ablation of liver tumors; it also has considerable expertise in robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery. Liver Transplantation: It performs piggyback and orthotopic liver transplantation, achieving good long-term outcomes. Hepatobiliary Surgery currently has 48 beds, 7 chief physicians, 3 associate chief physicians, 1 doctoral supervisor, 3 master's supervisors, 9 members with doctoral degrees, 2 with master's degrees, and 3 visiting scholars in Japan, and has a strong technical team. The department also undertakes teaching and training for medical school undergraduates, graduate students, advanced-study trainees, standardized residency trainees, and resident doctors. Over the past decade, it has received 1 First Prize of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Natural Science Award, more than 10 scientific research and teaching achievement awards at provincial, municipal, and university levels, undertaken 3 National Natural Science Foundation projects and more than 20 provincial- and department-level scientific research projects, and received more than 3 million in research funding. It has published more than 100 academic papers in core journals in China and abroad, including more than 20 SCI papers, served as chief editor or contributing editor for more than 10 monographs, and been granted 3 national patents. Hepatobiliary Surgery is steadily moving forward with superb technology, excellent service, dedicated teaching, and rigorous research.
