The Department of Cardiology is a key discipline of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Established in 1972, it became the Inner Mongolia Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in 1985 and was designated a National Training Base for Interventional Diagnosis and Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases (Coronary Heart Disease) in 2017. In 2020, subspecialty outpatient clinics for syncope, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, and other conditions were established. The department integrates medical care, teaching, health care, and scientific research. It is equipped with advanced instruments and facilities and has experts with profound academic accomplishments and extensive clinical experience, as well as highly capable young and middle-aged technical specialists with outstanding expertise and a strong specialized nursing team. The department currently has 156 beds, including 24 CCU beds, and 102 medical and nursing staff members, including 19 chief physicians (professors), 9 associate chief physicians (associate professors), 14 attending physicians, and 1 resident physician; 1 chief nurse, 6 associate chief nurses, 32 charge nurses, and 20 nurses. Over the past 5 years, the annual average number of inpatients has exceeded 5,000, and the annual average number of outpatients has exceeded 65,000. The department routinely performs interventional procedures for coronary heart disease, arrhythmias, structural heart disease, and other conditions at all levels and of various types, particularly coronary artery stent implantation, pacemaker implantation for bradyarrhythmias, ICD implantation for malignant ventricular arrhythmias, and CRT-D/P implantation for refractory heart failure; radiofrequency ablation for supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias; and “one-stop” procedures for atrial fibrillation (thermal/cryoablation + left atrial appendage occlusion). Approximately 3,000 interventional diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are completed each year on average. The department currently undertakes teaching responsibilities for undergraduate students, graduate students, standardized residency trainees, and visiting trainees; leads several projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region; and has received multiple scientific research awards at the autonomous-region level.
