Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine
The Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine of the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University was established in 1959. It was one of the earliest tertiary-discipline specialty departments in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region integrating clinical diagnosis and treatment and prevention of respiratory diseases, critical-care treatment, teaching and scientific research. It has 38 physicians, including 8 with doctoral degrees, 8 master's supervisors and 101 nurses. It has wards, outpatient services and an outpatient comprehensive diagnosis and treatment room, a respiratory endoscopy center, a sleep-monitoring room, a pulmonary-function room and a cough laboratory. It currently has 3 wards with a total of 156 beds: Area B mainly admits patients with lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cor pulmonale; Area A mainly admits patients with interstitial lung disease and pulmonary vascular disease; and Area C mainly treats critically ill patients. It has modern clinical physiological monitoring and emergency-treatment equipment and provides advanced respiratory-support technologies. It has also established 13 respiratory subspecialty groups and subspecialty outpatient clinics to better serve patients.
The Respiratory Endoscopy Center was established in 1981. It has an Olympus ultrasound bronchoscope, radial endoscopic ultrasound, a German Storz rigid bronchoscope, electronic bronchoscopes and thoracoscopes. It performs cryotherapy, thermotherapy, balloon dilation, stent placement, foreign-body removal, bronchoalveolar lavage, Rose and other procedures, and was the first in the autonomous region to carry out interventional diagnosis and treatment combining ultrasound bronchoscopy with flexible and rigid endoscopes.
The Pulmonary Function Room and Cough Laboratory can perform pulmonary ventilation and diffusion-function tests, bronchodilation and challenge tests, exhaled nitric oxide measurement, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, sputum-induction tests and allergen testing. The Sleep Center has multiple polysomnography monitors and portable devices and can perform ventilator pressure-titration therapy. The "AI Pulmonary Nodule Subcenter of the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University, China Lung Cancer Prevention and Treatment Alliance" has been established, using artificial intelligence-assisted diagnosis to further improve differentiation of benign and malignant pulmonary nodules and promote early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment of lung cancer. It is also an outstanding PCCM institution and a single-discipline training base for pulmonary function and sleep medicine, as well as the only hospital in Inner Mongolia awarded by the Respiratory Disease Branch of the Chinese Medical Association as part of the "Standardized Lung Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Management Project for 1,000 Hospitals."
