Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
The Department of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy of the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University was established in June 2004 and is mainly responsible for hyperbaric oxygen therapy for various types of ischemic and hypoxic diseases. Currently, the Hyperbaric Oxygen Department has a floor area of about 791 m2. The department possesses the first square-shaped large hyperbaric oxygen chamber complex with three chambers and seven doors in the Inner Mongolia region, consisting of three independent chamber compartments with a total of 28 seats; each seat is equipped with routine oxygen supply, first-level (primary) oxygen supply and a nebulization device. Inside the chambers there are a central ECG monitoring system, a projector, air conditioning, video surveillance, intercom and other facilities; computerized automated operation makes treatment more precise and safer and significantly improves patient comfort. Outside the chamber, 6 normobaric saturated-oxygen breathing units are also provided, meeting the treatment needs of critically ill patients of different ages and different conditions.
Currently, the Hyperbaric Oxygen Department has advanced hyperbaric oxygen chamber equipment and a hyperbaric oxygen therapy team with rich experience and comprehensive skills. The department has a total of 11 staff members, including 6 physicians: 1 chief physician (professor), 2 associate chief physicians, 1 attending physician and 2 resident physicians; 4 nursing staff; and 1 assistant engineer. Department director Ning Rongxia led the team to take the lead in the whole region in carrying out individualized hyperbaric oxygen treatment plans for patients of different ages and different conditions, greatly improving the therapeutic outcomes of critically ill patients and playing a leading and driving role in the development of hyperbaric oxygen medicine in the entire autonomous region.
At present, our department treats more than 10,000 patient-visits annually and rescues more than 1,000 critically ill patients per year on average. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves multiple clinical disciplines and has irreplaceable therapeutic effects for acute carbon monoxide poisoning and delayed encephalopathy, wound healing, sudden hearing loss, brain and spinal cord injury, infection, acute hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, ischemic-hypoxic cerebrovascular disease, improvement of sleep, enhancement of human immunity, etc.
