Scope of Services (including the department’s distinctive medical technologies and academic research achievements): The Nephrology specialty of the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University was established in 1972 and became the earliest independent nephrology department in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It mainly conducts the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic glomerulonephritis, rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis, and acute and chronic interstitial nephritis caused by various factors. It also provides diagnosis and treatment for primary small-vessel vasculitis, hemolytic uremic syndrome, polycystic kidney disease, pulmonary-renal hemorrhage syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, and various other secondary kidney diseases. It provides diagnosis and treatment for various congenital glomerular and tubular diseases and hereditary kidney diseases. The department currently performs hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, renal biopsy, the application of central venous double-lumen indwelling catheters and arteriovenous fistula creation in long-term hemodialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), ascites reinfusion, single-basement-membrane plasma exchange therapy, double plasma exchange, immunoadsorption, bilirubin adsorption, leukapheresis, and hemoperfusion, as well as blood-purification-related techniques such as citrate anticoagulation, sodium citrate anticoagulation therapy, artificial liver treatment, balloon dilation by percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) for arteriovenous fistula stenosis, and balloon dilation for central venous stenosis. In the fields of primary and secondary nephropathies, it independently completes the clinical and pathological examination of renal biopsies. The department currently has 4 master’s degree supervisors and has trained 34 master’s students successively. It has received 4 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and 31 provincial- and ministerial-level research projects, published 30 SCI-indexed articles, and published 6 monographs. It has formed an innovative team in the fields of peritoneal dialysis, blood purification, and primary and secondary nephropathies. In November 2015, it received the honorary title of an Industrial Innovation Talent Team in the Fifth Group of the “Grassland Talent” Project; in 2021, it received the honorary title of an Industrial Innovation Talent Team in the Eleventh Group of the Rolling Fund of the “Grassland Talent” Project. The team leaders and members successively received the First-Tier designation of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region “321 Talent Project” and the First-Tier designation of Young Innovative and Entrepreneurial Talents of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region “Grassland Talent” Project. While placing great emphasis on integrating clinical practice with scientific research, the team’s projects won one Second Prize and one Third Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, two Third Prizes for Science and Technology of the Inner Mongolia Medical Association, and two research patents. It established the “Ministry of Health Demonstration Center for Peritoneal Dialysis Training” and received designation as a “Huatuo Project—Peritoneal Dialysis Catheterization Training Base” from the Chinese Medical Association. It was awarded the honorary title of “National Blood Purification Training Base for County-Level Hospitals” by the Department of Medical Service Supervision of the Ministry of Health of the People’s Republic of China. It was also the first in the autonomous region to establish an information system for hemodialysis and was designated as an advanced training base for the Special Ability Training Program for Capacity Building in Comprehensive Dialysis Management of the National Health Commission Capacity Building and Continuing Education Center. It has received designation as a Specialized Nursing Training Base of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
