The ward currently has 56 open beds and is equipped with an intensive care and emergency resuscitation room, as well as advanced instruments and equipment, including electrocardiographic monitors (ECG, blood pressure, and blood oxygen saturation), micro-injection pumps, micro-infusion pumps, electrocardiographs, noninvasive ventilators, cardiac defibrillators, 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitors, 24-hour Holter monitors (ambulatory ECG), polysomnography systems, CPAP machines, and various other advanced devices. These facilities enable the department to provide patients with excellent medical services and meet their treatment needs. The Department of Geriatrics of the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University is a comprehensive discipline integrating the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of geriatric diseases with health care for senior officials. It was also the first in the autonomous region to conduct research on geriatric diseases and is the earliest and most professionally advanced geriatric disease treatment center in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Our department has consistently carried out the diagnosis and treatment of geriatric diseases and health education, providing retired senior officials and elderly patients with high-quality medical services and a favorable healthcare environment.
Scope of Services (including academic and research achievements): In view of the characteristics of geriatric diseases, which often require simultaneous treatment of multiple diseases or treatment of one primary disease while managing the others, our department has appointed specialist physicians in multiple fields and conducted general medical training based on these specialties. It can provide systematic diagnosis and treatment, with good clinical outcomes, for cardiovascular diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, endocrine diseases, digestive system diseases in older adults, as well as various difficult and severe conditions in the elderly. This ensures that the clinical backbone staff possess technical expertise in multiple fields. After years of accumulating clinical experience, the department has established systematic diagnostic and treatment protocols and specialized nursing protocols. In 1988, it took the lead in the autonomous region in using polysomnography to diagnose sleep-disordered breathing and using PAP ventilators to treat sleep apnea. In 2001, it began interventional treatment for coronary heart disease and pacemaker implantation for arrhythmias.
The Department of Geriatrics undertakes theoretical courses and clinical internships in clinical medicine (diagnostics, internal medicine, geriatrics, etc.) and nursing, trains clinical postgraduate students, and provides standardized training and teaching for resident physicians both inside and outside the hospital.
The Department of Geriatrics places great emphasis on summarizing and exchanging clinical experience. It has published more than 153 papers in national core journals, served as chief editor of 1 textbook, contributed to 2 monographs, and published 2 SCI-indexed articles. In medical research, it undertakes national- and provincial-level research projects related to geriatrics, leads more than 10 Natural Science Foundation projects funded by the Department of Science and Technology of the autonomous region, 6 projects funded by the Department of Health, and 5 major projects of the Affiliated Hospital of the medical university.
