Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Centre
The Digestive Endoscopy Center has 47 medical and nursing staff members, including 17 holders of master’s degrees, 3 holders of doctoral degrees, and 4 doctoral candidates. It has 29 physicians, including 7 chief physicians, 6 associate chief physicians, 12 attending physicians, and 4 physicians, as well as 18 nursing staff.
Scope of services: The Digestive Endoscopy Center has strong technical capabilities and has reached an advanced level nationally. The Endoscopy Center performs approximately 150 gastroscopy and colonoscopy examinations per day on average. The Digestive Endoscopy Center has successively carried out endoscopic resection of polyps and early cancers; endoscopic ligation, sclerotherapy, and embolization for esophageal and gastric fundal varices; gastrostomy; sphincterotomy of the sphincter of Oddi (endoscopic extraction of common bile duct stones, endoscopic placement of biliary and pancreatic duct stents, and other procedures); endoscopic mucosal resection; APC (argon plasma coagulation) treatment; endoscopic removal of upper gastrointestinal foreign bodies; submucosal injection techniques; tunnel techniques; and other procedures. These procedures have now become routine treatments. In addition, several new technologies have filled gaps in the autonomous region and reached a nationally leading level. “Clinical Application of Duodenal Papillary Sphincterotomy” and “Embolization of Gastric Fundal Varices” respectively received the First Prize and Third Prize for New Technologies and New Services of the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical College for 1999–2000, and “Endoscopic Mucosal Resection for the Treatment of Precancerous Lesions and Early Cancer of the Digestive Tract” received the Class A Hospital-level New Technology Innovation Award in 2006.
The Digestive Laboratory has successively carried out 24-hour pH monitoring, anorectal manometry, biofeedback therapy, gastric emptying studies, 13C breath tests, liver reserve function testing, and other projects. In 2007, it was appointed by the Chinese Society of Digestive Endoscopy of the Chinese Medical Association as the Inner Mongolia training base of the Chinese Medical Association Digestive Endoscopy Specialty Training Center. In 2009, it was designated a key discipline of the autonomous region. “A Comparative Study of Endoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment of Pancreaticobiliary Diseases with ERCP, MRCP, and CT” received the Third Prize for Science and Technology of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. “Endoscopic Treatment of Esophageal and Gastric Fundal Varices—Observation of Short- and Long-term Efficacy” received the Third Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the Inner Mongolia Medical Association. It currently undertakes 4 scientific research projects of the autonomous region’s Science and Technology Commission, Health Department, and Education Department. Department staff have published numerous articles in the Chinese Journal of Digestion and the Chinese Journal of Digestive Endoscopy, as well as multiple SCI articles, placing the department at the leading level in the field of gastroenterology at our hospital.
Director Su Bingzhong, the academic leader of the discipline, holds multiple positions in national and autonomous-region academic organizations: member of the Chinese Society of Digestive Endoscopy, member of the Chinese Society of Gastroenterology, standing member of the Gastroenterology Professional Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, chairman of the Inner Mongolia Professional Committee of Gastroenterology, member of the Gastrointestinal Motility Group of the Chinese Society of Gastroenterology, and consultant to the National Esophageal and Gastric Fundal Varices Collaboration Group. He serves on the editorial boards of the Chinese Medical Journal, Chinese Journal of Digestive Endoscopy, Chinese Journal of Pancreatology, Modern Digestive and Interventional Diagnosis and Treatment, and Chinese Journal of Digestive Endoscopy, and is a standing committee member of the Inner Mongolia Medical Journal. Director Su Bingzhong was the first in the autonomous region to independently perform ESD, POME, sclerosing-agent injection for esophageal varices, and embolic-agent injection for gastric fundal varices; his technical level is leading within the region.
Medical Equipment Introduction: The Digestive Endoscopy Center is currently the largest digestive endoscopy diagnosis and treatment center in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, covering nearly 3,000 square meters. It is fully equipped with advanced equipment and has an independent ERCP room, an endoscopic operating room, 15 gastroscopy and colonoscopy diagnosis and treatment rooms, a gastrointestinal function room, and other facilities. It has 15 electronic endoscopy diagnostic systems and more than 60 electronic gastroscopes and colonoscopes. It is equipped with advanced devices, including a peroral cholangioscope (SpyGlass), HybridKnife, an Olympus integrated workstation, capsule endoscopy, argon plasma coagulation and other endoscopic treatment systems, a Danish gastrointestinal motility testing system, carbon-13 and carbon-14 breath test instruments, a DJS-B colon hydrotherapy machine, a Philips gastrointestinal diagnostic X-ray machine, manual and fully automatic cleaning and disinfection equipment, and a multimedia training center. It also has the world’s most advanced high-end endoscopes, including endoscopic ultrasound, double-balloon total gastrointestinal electronic endoscopy, magnifying endoscopy, and chromoendoscopy. The endoscopic ultrasound system is currently the most high-end and comprehensive endoscopy system in China and abroad, consisting of a Hitachi EUB-5500 main unit with radial and sector scanning and Olympus ultrasound probes, providing more accurate means for the diagnosis and treatment of digestive system diseases. All physicians operating these endoscopes have undergone specialized training and are proficient in their operation, with comprehensive technical expertise.
