Laboratory Medicine
The department is divided into eight professional groups: biochemistry, blood gas, clinical hematology and body fluids, thrombosis and hemostasis, immunology, bacteriology, molecular biology, and cytology, as well as a blood bank. It is responsible for all clinical laboratory testing and clinical blood supply tasks for all departments throughout the hospital. It also provides clinical services including the storage, recovery, preparation, and release testing of induced pluripotent stem cells (IPSC), while providing clinical departments with experimental evidence for clinical drug and reagent registration and other research.
The department is equipped with advanced equipment, including an XN9000 fully automated hematology analyzer line, workstations for the Hitachi specimen pretreatment system, a bioMérieux fully automated microbial identification analyzer, and mass spectrometers. It currently offers 194 laboratory tests. The laboratory information system has achieved paperless operation and provides functions including the entry of laboratory test information for inpatients and outpatients, data transmission, abnormal result alerts, result printing, and charging.
In 2010, the department became the 60th laboratory in China and the third in Tianjin to pass ISO15189 international accreditation. It subsequently passed reassessment reviews in 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2023, for a total of 9 times. It was the first in China to establish a secondary blood bank in an operating room, and established a system under which laboratory physicians track and analyze the test results and transfusion status of critically ill patients.
