Ultrasound Medicine
Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine
The Department of Ultrasound Medicine of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, after 30 years of development and construction, has now become an ultrasound diagnosis and treatment center integrating medical care, scientific research, and teaching. At present, the department has 8 staff members with senior professional titles, 8 associate chief physicians, and 26 attending physicians; 2 master’s student supervisors; 7 staff members with doctoral degrees and 92 with master’s degrees; and a total of 176 members in its medical, teaching, and research team. The department currently has nearly 100 ultrasound diagnostic devices, including high-end color Doppler ultrasound diagnostic systems such as GE LOGIQ E20, GE Voluson E10, GE Vivid E95, Philips EPIQ Elite, Philips EPIQ 7C, Philips EPIQ 7, and Mindray R9, distributed across 87 examination rooms in five campuses: Qingchun, Qiantang, Dayunhe, Shaoxing, and Shuangling. At present, 5 standardized ultrasound intervention rooms are in operation, equipped with precision interventional technology platforms such as virtual fusion navigation. The discipline has a complete range of subspecialties, covering all areas of ultrasound medicine. It is mainly divided into five major subspecialty directions: abdominal ultrasound, superficial ultrasound, cardiovascular ultrasound, obstetric and gynecological ultrasound, and interventional ultrasound; further subdivided specialties include gastrointestinal ultrasound, musculoskeletal ultrasound, peripheral vascular ultrasound, fetal echocardiography, and reproductive ultrasound. As of 2023, the department’s annual diagnostic and treatment volume was approximately 1.5 million items, and its annual volume of ultrasound interventional diagnosis and treatment exceeded 20,000 cases. The department has a young and dynamic professional team characterized by unity, collaboration, and strong technical expertise; advanced equipment and excellent services provide a solid foundation for the sustained and in-depth development of the discipline.
Technical Advantages
The discipline has launched multiple distinctive diagnostic and treatment programs in all five major subspecialty directions and has developed significant technical strengths.
Abdominal Ultrasound: Contrast-enhanced ultrasound of abdominal organs, elastography, and ultrasound-based assessment of gastrointestinal diseases and function.
Superficial Ultrasound: Detailed ultrasound assessment of thyroid and breast diseases, contrast-enhanced ultrasound and elastography of superficial organs, and musculoskeletal ultrasound.
Cardiovascular Ultrasound: Real-time three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiographic monitoring during cardiac interventions and intraoperatively, fetal echocardiography, contrast echocardiography, and detailed assessment of peripheral vascular diseases.
Obstetric and Gynecological Ultrasound: Screening for fetal anomalies in the first and second trimesters, and four-dimensional hysterosalpingo-contrast sonography.
Interventional Ultrasound: All types of ultrasound-guided diagnosis and treatment, mainly including the following major categories: fine-needle aspiration biopsy, core-needle biopsy, catheter drainage, cyst sclerotherapy, ablation therapy for solid tumors, and intraoperative ultrasound.
