Smoking Cessation Multidisciplinary Outpatient Clinic
Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine
Introduction
The MDT multidisciplinary smoking cessation clinic is composed of experts from the Department of Mental Health, Department of Respiratory Medicine, and Department of Cardiology with associate senior professional titles or above. There are currently more than 300 million smokers in China, and more than half are nicotine-dependent. Nicotine dependence is a chronic, complex, and relapse-prone brain disease that requires professional treatment. For smokers who have not yet developed or who already have smoking-related pulmonary, cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, or other diseases, finding more effective methods to quit smoking is an urgent priority. Multidisciplinary, comprehensive smoking cessation interventions involving the Departments of Mental Health, Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology, and other specialties, together with long-term tracking and follow-up of smokers attempting to quit by a multidisciplinary team, can help patients successfully quit smoking to the greatest extent possible.
