Shuguang Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Neurosurgery is the “Stroke Screening, Prevention and Treatment Base” of the National Health and Family Planning Commission and the Shanghai Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission, and one of the components of Shanghai’s key discipline of integrated Chinese and Western medicine, “Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Surgery,” and the “Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Brain Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center”; it is the Pudong New Area Emergency Center for Craniocerebral Trauma and an independent first-level clinical department of the hospital. It currently has 33 beds, including 9 beds in an independent laminar-flow intensive care unit, and is equipped with the complete set of equipment for a neurosurgical intensive care unit (NICU), dedicated neurosurgical operating tables, intracranial pressure monitors, automatic craniotomes, surgical navigation systems, high-magnification fluorescence operating microscopes, neuroendoscopes, ultrasonic emulsification aspirators, evoked-potential equipment, transcranial Doppler, microvascular Doppler, and the electroencephalographic bispectral index, as well as other advanced medical equipment. The department currently has 1 chief physician, 3 deputy chief physicians, 5 attending physicians, and 1 resident physician.
The diseases treated include tumors of the brain and spinal cord, spinal diseases, craniocerebral trauma, and cerebrovascular diseases (aneurysms, cerebrovascular malformations, carotid and cerebral vessel stenosis, etc.). The department can currently perform various operations and treatments, including intracranial tumor resection, resection of spinal cord and intraspinal canal tumors, treatment of spinal diseases and craniocerebral trauma, evacuation of intracranial hematomas, ventriculo-peritoneal shunting for hydrocephalus, third ventriculostomy for hydrocephalus, intracranial aneurysm clipping, carotid endarterectomy, stent angioplasty for carotid artery stenosis, and angioplasty for intracranial artery stenosis, as well as other operations and treatments; more than 400 operations are performed annually.
