Traumatology Department
Shuguang Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Shi’s Traumatology is one of the first bone-injury schools to be included in the national intangible cultural heritage. With a history of nearly one and a half centuries, Shanghai Shi’s Traumatology has stood firm and developed steadily amid the tide of modern medicine, mainly owing to its profound foundation and its ability to draw on the strengths of various schools.
Beginning in the 1980s, Professor Shi Yinyu of Shanghai Shi’s Traumatology established the main focus of “preventing and treating chronic tendon and bone disorders with traditional Chinese medicine” based on changes in the disease spectrum and the characteristics and advantages of traditional Chinese medicine. Systematic and in-depth research was conducted on osteoarticular diseases, osteoporosis, cervical spondylosis, lumbocrural pain, sarcopenia, and other conditions, resulting in the development of oral and external-use (plaster) traditional Chinese medicine preparations such as “Migu Capsules” and “Yangxue Ruanjian Capsules.” With a history of nearly 150 years, Shanghai Shi’s Traumatology is one of the two bone-injury schools included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage. Shanghai Shuguang Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the inheritance and research base for the Shi’s Traumatology school of Haipai traditional Chinese medicine, established the Shi’s Traumatology Medical Center in 2005. We adhere to the guiding principle of “inheriting and developing the academic essence of Shi’s Traumatology and cultivating and fostering innovative talents in traditional Chinese medicine bone injury,” and follow the work policy of “taking clinical practice as the foundation, scientific research as the guide, and teaching as the basis.” We strive to build an internationally leading “integrated, whole-course diagnosis and treatment service model for bone and joint diseases,” continuously improving the capacity and level of medical services. Today, Shi’s Traumatology has more than 1,000 inheritors throughout China and overseas, and enjoys a high reputation both in academic circles and in the eyes of the public.
