Vascular Surgery

Vascular Surgery is one of China’s leading centers for the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral vascular diseases. The department upholds the spirit of “the virtue and benevolence of great physicians, the dawn of life,” keeps pace with the times, pioneers and innovates, and has achieved notable results in clinical diagnosis and treatment, scientific research, and teaching. Vascular Surgery inherits the source of Gu’s Surgery, “external disorders are rooted in internal conditions”; carries forward the principle of Xi’s Surgery, “pathogenic factors lead to stasis”; expands the approach of Xia’s Surgery, “pathogens come from nearby”; incorporates the methods of “warming to promote pus formation and tissue growth” and “removing necrotic tissue and promoting granulation”; and establishes the overall treatment principle of “resolving ulcers and guarding their margins.” This reflects the major therapeutic principles of resolving, tonifying, and supporting in traditional Chinese surgical medicine, while also emphasizing the holistic essence of giving equal importance to the whole body and the local ulcer, treating the ulcer surface and its surroundings together, combining internal and external treatment, and using medicines and techniques in tandem. Vascular Surgery is not only an institution serving as deputy chair of the Peripheral Vascular Diseases Branch of the China Association of Chinese Medicine and deputy chair of the Sores and Ulcers Diseases Branch of the China Association of Chinese Medicine, but also the institution serving as chair of the Peripheral Vascular Diseases Branch of the Shanghai Association of Chinese Medicine. In the 2022 academic influence assessment, TCM peripheral vascular disease studies ranked first nationwide; the department received the First Prize of the Science and Technology Award of the China Association of Chinese Medicine in 2018 and the First Prize of the Science and Technology Award of the Shanghai Association of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine in 2022.

Specialized preparations: These include dozens of paste, dan, pill, and powder preparations, such as Zizhu Ointment, Hongyou Ointment, Jinhuang Ointment (Powder), Baiyu Ointment, Qingdai Ointment (Powder), Jiuyi Dan, Honggui Tincture, Heat-Clearing and Detoxifying Mixture, Astragalus Capsules, and Shenxie Pain-Relief Capsules.
