Department of Oncology
The Department of Oncology at Shuguang Hospital was established in 1955 and comprises three main components: the Department of Medical Oncology, the Department of Interventional Oncology, and the Oncology Research Institute. After more than 60 years of development, it has become a clinical department integrating clinical care, scientific research, and teaching, with a distinctive clinical focus on the prevention and treatment of tumors using traditional Chinese medicine and integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. The oncology discipline is an important component of the National Key Discipline (Internal Medicine of Traditional Chinese Medicine—Oncology) and the National 12th Five-Year Plan Key Discipline (Clinical Medicine Integrating Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine); it is also an innovation team under the national Double First-Class University Construction initiative, a Shanghai 085 First-Class Discipline, a Shanghai First-Class Discipline in Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, a Shanghai High-Plateau, High-Peak, High-Level Innovation Team, and an institution involved in establishing the Shanghai Colorectal Cancer Specialty Alliance. While leveraging the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine, it has established long-term collaborations with overseas medical institutions such as Weill Medical College of Cornell University in the United States, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Moffitt Cancer Center, the University of South Florida, Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, and the University of Sydney in clinical diagnosis and treatment, scientific research, education and teaching, and international exchange and cooperation, thereby keeping the clinical diagnosis and treatment of tumors in step with advanced international standards.
