【History of Department Establishment】 The Department of Medical Laboratory Medicine (including the Department of Blood Transfusion) was established in 1975. 【Department Honors】 Top 30 Benchmark Medical Laboratory Departments of Chinese Traditional Medicine Hospitals (2024). It is currently an ISO 15189 medical laboratory accredited by the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS) (CNAS MT 0456), a Guangdong Province Level 2 Pathogenic Microorganism Laboratory (BSL-2), a Guangdong Province Clinical Gene Amplification Testing Laboratory, one of the first benchmark demonstration units nationwide for the “Multi-Center Promotion and Application Demonstration Project for the AI-Based Mutual Recognition Platform for Medical Institution Test Results and Trusted Data Space Development,” the lead institution of the Professional Committee for Laboratory Economics Evaluation of the Shenzhen Health Economics Association, and the lead institution of the Professional Committee of Laboratory Medicine of the Shenzhen Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine. 【Department Leadership】 Professors Song Anzhen, He Jinchang, Li Weixiong, and Zhou Xiaomei successively served as the department’s administrative heads and made outstanding contributions to its development. Since 2011, Professor He Jincai has served as the department director. Professor Zhu Meiling, currently Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the hospital and academic leader of Laboratory Diagnostics at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, serves as the department’s academic leader. 【Research Scope】 The department is committed to clinical laboratory medicine, teaching and scientific research, as well as public health services. 【Department Activities】 The department currently has the Department of Medical Laboratory Medicine (including the Department of Blood Transfusion) at the Futian Campus, the Department of Medical Laboratory Medicine (including the Department of Blood Transfusion) at the Guangming Campus, and the Department of Medical Laboratory Medicine at the Luohu Campus. It comprises the secondary disciplines of clinical chemistry, clinical immunology, clinical hematology and body fluid analysis, clinical microbiology, and clinical molecular diagnostics, as well as the discipline of transfusion medicine. The department currently has 62 professional and technical staff, including 5 with senior professional titles and 6 with associate senior professional titles; 1 postdoctoral co-supervisor, 1 doctoral supervisor, and 2 master’s supervisors; 5 doctoral degree holders and 31 master’s degree holders. It possesses advanced technology platforms, including the Roche Cobas 8000 biochemical analyzer, Abbott i4000SR chemiluminescence immunoassay system, Sysmex HST-201 hematology analysis line, Stago STA-R Evolution coagulation analyzer, BD BACTEC FX blood culture system, and Beckman-Coulter IQ200 urinalysis workstation, as well as a full-process intelligent laboratory information system. The department performs more than 700 testing items. Its test reports are consistently recognized in more than 70 countries and regions worldwide, providing massive scientific and objective evidence for the precise diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, digestive system diseases, neurological diseases, tumors and hematological diseases, urinary system diseases, endocrine diseases, rheumatic diseases, diseases of the locomotor system, obstetric and gynecological diseases, andrology diseases, pediatric diseases, infectious diseases, and otorhinolaryngological diseases, among others. The department undertakes teaching at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine and has a complete talent-training system covering undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral education. In recent years, it has undertaken more than 10 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and provincial and municipal scientific research programs, and has published more than 60 high-level academic papers in authoritative domestic and international journals in oncology, including Molecular Cancer (IF=41.444), J Hematol & Oncol (IF=18.377), Pharmacol Ther (IF=12.31), Cancer Lett (IF=8.679), and HLA (IF=8.0), of which 14 had an IF>5. Diligently refining medical expertise and upholding fairness; providing precise testing to safeguard health. Under the correct leadership of the hospital Party Committee, the department has consistently adhered to Party-building leadership in disciplinary development, built highlands and climbed peaks, supported the hospital’s refined, high-quality development, and served the medical and health undertakings of the Greater Bay Area. 【Department Group Photograph】
