Interventional Medicine Department
Department Establishment History — The Interventional Department was established in 2004. Department Honors — The Interventional Department is the deputy-chair institution of the Interventional Diagnosis and Treatment Professional Committee of the Shenzhen Medical Association. It adheres to a patient-centered approach, emphasizes technical standardization and improvement of medical quality, and has gradually developed in a direction characterized by minimally invasive treatment. The department has accumulated extensive experience in interventional oncology, vascular diseases, and emergency treatment, successfully completing numerous complex and high-risk interventional procedures and achieving good clinical outcomes, with a certain degree of academic influence in the region. The team works closely together, the medical and nursing staff have solid professional capabilities, and the department’s overall strength is steadily improving. It has led and participated in 3 provincial- and municipal-level research projects and published more than 10 SCI-indexed and Chinese core-journal papers. Department Leadership — Professor Xie Zonggui is the department’s founder and has continuously served as its administrative director. Research Scope — The Interventional Department focuses on image-guided minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment, and is dedicated to interventional oncology (such as TACE for liver cancer, ablation therapy, etc.), interventional diagnosis and treatment of vascular diseases (lower-extremity deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, lower-extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans, etc.), interventional diagnosis and treatment of hemorrhagic diseases (gastrointestinal bleeding, postpartum hemorrhage, traumatic bleeding, etc.), and nonvascular interventions (such as percutaneous needle biopsy, biliary drainage, biliary stent placement, etc.). At the same time, the department also focuses on the application of new interventional materials and devices, optimization of imaging technology, and research on mechanisms for complication prevention and control. By combining clinical practice and scientific research, it continuously improves the level of minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment and patient outcomes. Department Operations — The department currently operates as “one department, two zones, ” with 5 open beds and an 11-member medical, technical, and nursing team (6 physicians, 4 nurses, and 1 technician), including 1 chief physician, 2 associate chief physicians, and 3 attending physicians; its annual outpatient volume is more than 2,000 visits, and it has more than 150 discharges. The Interventional Department centers on image-guided minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment and provides systematic services for tumors and vascular and nonvascular diseases. The department routinely performs interventional oncology treatments, including transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), radiofrequency ablation, and microwave ablation, which are widely used in the comprehensive treatment of liver cancer and various solid tumors; in vascular intervention, it has mature capabilities in balloon angioplasty and stent placement for peripheral arterial stenosis or occlusion, as well as thrombolysis and thrombectomy for lower-extremity deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism; in emergency intervention, it can rapidly perform interventional hemostasis for gastrointestinal bleeding, postpartum hemorrhage, and traumatic bleeding, significantly improving the rescue success rate. At the same time, the department actively performs nonvascular interventional diagnosis and treatment procedures, such as percutaneous needle biopsy, drainage of abscesses and fluid collections, percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTCD), and biliary stent placement, providing strong support for multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment. The department emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration (MDT) and works closely with the oncology, hepatobiliary surgery, and radiology departments to formulate individualized treatment plans. In terms of technological development, the department continuously introduces and promotes new technologies and materials, optimizes diagnostic and treatment processes, and strengthens perioperative management and complication prevention and control. The team structure is sound, the medical and nursing staff have solid professional foundations and perform procedures in a standardized manner, and the team can perform multiple complex and high-risk interventional procedures. Overall operations are stable, medical quality continues to improve, and a discipline development model characterized by minimally invasive, safe, and efficient care has gradually taken shape.
