【Department Establishment History】 The Department of Gynecology was established in 1993. 【Department Honors】 Guangdong Province Key TCM Specialty; Shenzhen TCM Specialty with Distinctive Features; the institution serving as the chairing unit of the Gynecology Professional Committee of the Shenzhen Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine; the lead institution of the Shenzhen TCM Gynecology Alliance; a member institution of the TCM Gynecology Alliance of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area; and home to the Studio of Nationally Renowned Veteran TCM Physician Liu Minru, the Studio of Nationally Renowned TCM Physician Du Huilan, and the Qiangui Ding School of Gynecology Inheritance Studio. 【Department Leadership】 Professors Wang Xialing and Yang Weijiang successively served as the department’s administrative directors and made outstanding contributions to its development. Since 2018, Professor Du Xuelian has served as head of the department. 【Research Scope】 The department pursues three key research directions: TCM treatment of infertility, treatment of endometriosis, and perioperative TCM-enhanced recovery (ERAS) for gynecologic tumors, leveraging the multi-target advantages of TCM in disease prevention and treatment. 【Department Operations】 At present, the department has 2 inpatient wards (Futian Campus and Guangming Campus) and outpatient services at 3 campuses (Luohu Campus Outpatient Clinic, Futian Campus Outpatient Clinic, and Guangming Campus Outpatient Clinic), as well as a colposcopy room, gynecologic outpatient operating room, induced-abortion room, comprehensive TCM treatment room, high-intensity focused ultrasound treatment room, pelvic-floor treatment room, and other facilities. The department brings together various types of talent, including “Lingnan Famous Physicians,” “Shenzhen Famous TCM Physicians,” “Shenzhen Practical Clinical Medical Talents,” “Shenzhen Peacock Talents,” “Shenzhen Elite Talents,” and “Shenzhen Backbone Talents in Distinctive TCM Clinical Techniques.” In 2023, under the “Three Famous Projects” team initiative, it flexibly introduced the gynecology team of Du Huilan, a Nationally Renowned TCM Physician at Hebei University of Chinese Medicine, to carry forward the academic thinking of renowned TCM physicians. The department has led nearly 20 provincial- and municipal-level projects, published more than 50 papers, including more than 20 SCI-indexed papers, and submitted 13 patent applications. The annual outpatient volume is approximately 110,000 person-visits. The department has established a series of safe, effective, and mature diagnostic and treatment systems and quality-control standards; it has researched and standardized diagnostic and treatment protocols for gynecologic tumors, infertility, menstrual irregularities, pelvic pain, gynecologic inflammation, various disorders before and after menopause, postpartum disorders, threatened miscarriage, recurrent miscarriage, and other conditions. It has established specialty and disease-specific outpatient clinics based on three major disease categories: tumors, female reproductive endocrine diseases, and infertility. It has also opened MDT outpatient clinics for polycystic ovary syndrome, pelvic-floor disorders, and postmenopausal osteoporosis. The department is equipped with integrated operating rooms and has the most advanced specialty diagnostic and treatment equipment, including laparoscopic surgery systems, hysteroscopic surgery systems, and high-intensity focused ultrasound systems. It performs minimally invasive laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery for benign and malignant tumors, vaginal surgery, transabdominal surgery, highly complex pelvic DIE surgery, and female pelvic-floor repair surgery; its surgical scope now covers the full range of gynecologic procedures. The specialty has inherited the academic thinking of renowned veteran TCM physicians and uses the TCM principle of “tonifying the kidneys, activating the blood, and resolving blood stasis” to guide the diagnosis and treatment of difficult gynecologic diseases. It is skilled in using TCM therapies to promote recovery, fully demonstrating the advantages of TCM in gynecology. For example, topical application of Chinese herbal medicines and suspended moxibustion can effectively cure vaginitis; Chinese herbal applications, enemas, thunder-fire moxibustion, and other treatments are used for acute and chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, salpingitis, pelvic congestion syndrome, and other conditions. Based on disease characteristics, the department has developed medicinal paste formulas (Menstrual-Regulating and Fertility-Promoting Medicinal Paste Formula [调经种子膏], Beauty-Nourishing Medicinal Paste Formula [养颜膏], Mass-Resolving and Stasis-Dispelling Medicinal Paste Formula [散结祛瘀膏]), hospital preparations (Kidney-Tonifying and Chong-Benefiting Pills [补肾益冲丸], Blood-Activating and Chong-Regulating Pills [活血调冲丸], Kun’an Pills [坤安丸]), agreed-upon formulas (Fetal-Protecting Formula [保胎方], Embryo-Eliminating Formula [杀胚方], Warming the Channels and Relieving Pain Powder [温经止痛散], Uterine Restoration Formula [子宫复旧方]), and in-house-developed preparations (Kidney-Tonifying and Endometrium-Nourishing Formula [补肾养膜方], Bai Zi Menstrual-Regulating Decoction [柏子调经汤]).
