【Department Establishment History】 The Fourth Department of Surgery (Neurosurgery) established a specialty group in the surgical ward in 2008 and became an independent department in 2017. 【Department Honors】 It is currently a National Brain Prevention Commission Demonstration Stroke Prevention and Treatment Center, a Comprehensive Stroke Center of the Chinese Stroke Association, the leading institution of the Neurosurgery Professional Committee of the Shenzhen Society of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, and a standardized training base for traditional Chinese medicine surgery specialists in Shenzhen. It is a comprehensive specialty integrating clinical practice, teaching, and scientific research. 【Department Leadership】 Professor Wang Chongyang was the department’s first director and made outstanding contributions to its development. Since 2025, Professor Li Jinxing has served as department director. 【Scope of Research】 The department is dedicated to the integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine diagnosis and treatment, scientific research, and teaching of cerebrovascular diseases, craniocerebral injuries, brain tumors, functional neurosurgical diseases, and other conditions. 【Department Operations】 The department currently has 25 open beds and 5 specialist physicians, including 4 doctoral students and 1 master’s student; 3 associate chief physicians, 2 attending physicians, and 16 specialist nurses. It admits more than 700 patients annually and performs more than 500 operations. The department has a specialized integrated digital operating room equipped with advanced neurosurgical equipment, including the Siemens pheno and Philips DSA, a ZEISS KINEVO900 fluorescence surgical microscope, a high-definition neuroendoscope, a Stryker surgical power system, a Mayfield head holder, and microsurgical instruments. The department has specialized instruments and equipment including central ECG monitors, invasive ventilators, blanket cooling systems, intracranial pressure monitors, and limb pneumatic compression therapy devices, meeting the needs of all types of neurosurgical operations. The department operates wards at both the Futian and Guangming campuses of our hospital and has specialty clinics for ischemic cerebrovascular disease, cerebral aneurysms, trigeminal neuralgia, neuropathic pain, gliomas, and other diseases. Neurosurgery currently primarily provides integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment for neurosurgical diseases, such as cerebrovascular diseases, functional brain diseases, neurological tumors, and craniocerebral injuries, with satisfactory therapeutic results. The department specializes in minimally invasive and interventional treatment of cerebrovascular diseases and functional neurosurgery. In recent years, it has successfully carried out minimally invasive surgical treatment of hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage; craniotomy clipping and endovascular embolization for intracranial aneurysms; carotid endarterectomy and stent implantation for carotid artery stenosis; emergency endovascular thrombectomy for acute intracranial large-artery occlusion; microvascular decompression and radiofrequency treatment for trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm; surgical treatment of peripheral neuralgia; treatment of severe craniocerebral injuries; microsurgical resection of intracranial tumors; stereotactic surgical treatment of Parkinson’s disease; surgical treatment of craniosynostosis in children; and surgical treatment of complex lumbar spinal cord meningoceles. The department is also staffed with traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture and rehabilitation physicians and has distinctive expertise in rehabilitation treatment with traditional Chinese medicine.
