Reproductive Health Department
【Department Establishment History】 The Department of Reproductive Health was established in 2017.
【Department Honors】 In collaboration with Peking University Shenzhen Hospital, the department established the Shenzhen Reproductive Medicine Specialty Alliance.
【Department Leadership】 In 2017, Director Cao Danong, recognized as a “Guangdong Province Outstanding TCM Clinical Talent,” led the department’s founding and served as its administrative director. In 2018, Professor Zheng Yuehui, a Shenzhen municipal-level leading talent, was recruited as the academic leader. Since December 2024, Director Qiu Li has served as head of the department.
【Research Scope】 The department is dedicated to the integrated diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the female reproductive system using Chinese and Western medicine, as well as to research and teaching. Its areas include female infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, diminished ovarian reserve, threatened miscarriage, recurrent miscarriage, the use of TCM in assisted reproductive technologies, perimenopausal syndrome, and other conditions.
【Department Services and Operations】 The department operates at two campuses: Futian and Guangming. Its staff includes one Guangdong Province Outstanding TCM Clinical Talent, three professors, one doctoral supervisor, and two master’s supervisors; four senior physicians and four attending physicians; and four holders of doctoral degrees and two holders of master’s degrees. The department offers expert special clinics; fertility assessment and preconception guidance; clinics for infertility, premature ovarian failure (premature ovarian insufficiency), endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, and TCM conditioning to support conception through assisted reproduction; and specialty outpatient clinics for adolescents and perimenopause. It is deeply engaged in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the female reproductive system.
To fully leverage the strengths of TCM, the department has developed paste formulas such as Wenjing Jiankun Gao, as well as distinctive medicines such as Wentong San and other products. It has led 7 projects at various levels, including projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and has published 34 high-level papers, including 15 SCI papers.
The department values the “Three Everythings” service philosophy: “everything for patients, for every patient, and starting from everything concerning patients.” It consistently upholds the essence of TCM’s holistic approach and treatment based on syndrome differentiation. Guided by the “Chong–Ren theory” in the Inner Canon, it emphasizes the important roles of the liver, spleen, and kidneys in women’s physiology and pathology. Its therapeutic objective is to achieve a dynamic balance between the uterus’s storage and discharge functions. By integrating traditional Chinese medicine with modern reproductive medicine and complementing their respective strengths, the department has developed a comprehensive and effective set of treatment methods with distinctive TCM features, based on the “disease differentiation–syndrome differentiation–evidence-based” diagnostic and treatment model, to safeguard the reproductive health of women at large.
