Cardiovascular Diseases
【Department Establishment History】 The Department of Cardiovascular Diseases was established in August 1991 and was the earliest TCM cardiovascular specialty department in Shenzhen. Professor Luo Luyi, Professor Zhang Zhong, and Professor Liu Qiang successively served as the department’s administrative directors, all making outstanding contributions to the department’s development. 【Department Honors】 The Department of Cardiovascular Diseases is a key TCM specialty in Guangdong Province and a core institution of the National Clinical Research Center for Radiation and Therapy. It is the TCM cardiovascular specialty department in the Shenzhen region to have taken the lead in carrying out coronary intervention treatment technology. 【Department Leadership】 Professor Luan Jienan currently serves as the department’s administrative director, and Xu Yumei serves as head nurse. 【Scope of Research】 The department has devoted itself to TCM classics, inherited the academic experience of National Masters of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and, in combination with the constitutional characteristics of the Lingnan region, formed a distinctive TCM diagnosis and treatment system for cardiovascular diseases. For diseases including hypertension, coronary heart disease, acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, and arrhythmia, the department’s empirical formulas and TCM external therapies have produced significant therapeutic effects, and the department is currently at the leading level in Shenzhen. 【Department Operations】 The department currently has 2 wards, 65 open beds, and a medical and nursing team of 48 members. Among them, Director Luan Jienan is a renowned TCM physician in Shenzhen. The department also has 3 master’s supervisors, with more than 70,000 outpatient visits and more than 2,400 discharges annually. It is comprehensively advancing the development of five major centers—the Chest Pain Center, Heart Failure Center, Atrial Fibrillation Center, Hypertension Center, and Cardiac Rehabilitation Center—and is intensively developing cardiovascular disease care. With the support of Shenzhen’s “Three Famous Projects” for medical and health services, the department introduced the team of Professor Zhang Jian from Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, thereby improving the department’s clinical and research standards in its specialty. As the TCM cardiovascular specialty department in the Shenzhen region to take the lead in carrying out coronary intervention treatment, the department has established a national-level standardized Chest Pain Center, with a green channel open 24 hours a day, and is proficient in modern diagnostic and treatment technologies including coronary intervention, pacemaker implantation, and radiofrequency ablation, winning a chance of survival for patients with acute myocardial infarction, severe arrhythmia, and other critical and severe illnesses; it also remains committed to the distinctive features of TCM and implements individualized treatment based on pattern differentiation for common cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure, and arrhythmia. To fully leverage the advantages of TCM, the department has developed a series of in-hospital preparations and agreed prescriptions, including Tongmai Dixian Pills, Jianxin Pinglü Pills, and Shenxiong Yixin Granules. It uses modified classical formulas to regulate qi and blood and unblock the heart vessels, while also carrying out distinctive therapies such as acupuncture and moxibustion, acupoint application, auricular seed-pressing therapy, Chinese herbal foot baths, Fire Dragon Cupping, and Baduanjin rehabilitation, thereby combining “internal regulation and external treatment.” These therapies can not only relieve uncomfortable symptoms such as chest tightness, palpitations, and dizziness, but also regulate zang-fu organ functions at their source and reduce disease recurrence. The department has led more than 20 projects at various levels, including National Natural Science Foundation of China projects, with research funding exceeding 3 million yuan, received 5 national-, provincial-, and municipal-level science and technology awards, and published more than 200 professional papers in domestic and international academic journals. The department has always kept in mind the TCM concept of “treating disease before it arises.” It is committed not only to treating diseases but also to the public education and prevention of cardiovascular health, advocating the health concept of “nurturing the heart-mind to calm the spirit and regulating qi and blood to unblock the heart vessels,” and teaching everyone simple and easy-to-follow TCM methods for caring for the heart. When the heart vessels are unobstructed, qi and blood are harmonized; when the heart spirit is tranquil, the body is healthy. Protect the heart vessels with the art of TCM, and warm the people’s hearts with the way of benevolence. Let us join hands to protect every heartbeat and build a shared line of defense for cardiovascular health! 【Department Group Photo】
