Through resource sharing and collaborative innovation, this has injected strong momentum into the department's high-quality development. The department fully leverages the complementary strengths of Chinese and Western medicine: in early gastrointestinal cancer and precancerous lesions, it relies on detailed examination with high-definition endoscopy and minimally invasive endoscopic ESD treatment, combined with hospital-prepared formulations such as Weiwèi Granules and Jianpi Hewei Formula, to rapidly relieve discomfort such as epigastric pain and epigastric fullness, and effectively treat precancerous lesions such as atrophy and intestinal metaplasia; in biliary and pancreatic diseases, it performs gallbladder-preserving stone extraction and ERCP, combined with appropriate traditional Chinese medicine techniques such as acupuncture and the Tuina Meridian Circulation Device, to reduce the risk of stone recurrence; in functional gastrointestinal disorders, it develops individualized Chinese herbal compound formulas, and combines the hospital-prepared formulations “Hewei Jiangni Formula” and “Modified Tong Xie Yao Formula” with acupuncture, moxibustion, thread embedding, plaster application, auricular points, and other multidimensional approaches to regulate gastrointestinal function safely and effectively; in inflammatory bowel disease, it uses double-balloon enteroscopy, capsule endoscopy, biologic agents, and small-molecule drugs to customize individualized fecal microbiota transplantation plans, and combines the hospital-prepared Shen Dai Yu Yang Enema Solution and Li Chang Formula with moxibustion and plaster application, achieving complementary advantages of Chinese and Western medicine. The department follows a strategy of coordinated development of clinical practice, scientific research, and teaching; it has established a high-level talent training platform; trained nearly 20 doctoral and postdoctoral fellows; initiated 17 National Natural Science Foundation of China projects and nearly 40 provincial- and municipal-level research projects; conducted 11 horizontal collaborative projects with Xiyuan Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, and other institutions; received authorization for more than 20 patents in total; published 6 academic monographs; and published more than 100 academic papers.
