Radiotherapy
【Department history】 The Department of Radiation Oncology was established in 2024. 【Department honors】 It is currently a council member unit of the Glioma MDT Specialty Alliance (NGMA South China Alliance) of the National Center for Neurological Diseases. 【Department leadership】 Professor Yang Zhenjiang serves as the head of the department. 【Scope of research】 The department is dedicated to individualized radiotherapy integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine, applying traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) throughout the entire course of radiotherapy to reduce toxicity and enhance efficacy. Its scope covers malignant tumors including central nervous system tumors (glioma, meningioma), head and neck tumors (nasopharyngeal carcinoma, oral cancer, laryngeal cancer, hypopharyngeal cancer), thoracic tumors (lung cancer, breast cancer, esophageal cancer, thymic cancer), abdominal and pelvic tumors (liver cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer, cervical cancer, endometrial cancer) and various metastatic tumors (bone, brain, lung, liver, lymph node), and it also treats benign diseases such as keloid, hemangioma and Graves' ophthalmopathy. 【Department service profile】 The department team has 19 members, including physicians, physicists, technologists, nurses and research staff, among whom there is 1 famous TCM physician of Shenzhen, 2 master's supervisors, 1 with a senior professional title, 2 with a deputy senior professional title, 4 with doctoral degrees, 1 overseas high-level talent of Shenzhen, and 1 specially appointed post talent of the Shenzhen health system. The department has obtained 4 projects at various levels including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, has written and participated in formulating 6 national-level radiotherapy diagnostic and treatment guidelines/consensus documents, and has published multiple SCI papers with the highest impact factor of 41.9; it has developed into a center for integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine oncologic radiotherapy in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The department gives full play to the advantages of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine, integrating modern precision radiotherapy with TCM conditioning, and has formed a characteristic oncology radiotherapy system of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine featuring “TCM intervention throughout the entire course of radiotherapy”. Before radiotherapy, TCM constitutional conditioning is carried out to correct the state of bodily deficiency and damage and strengthen the body's healthy qi; during radiotherapy, treatments such as clearing heat and detoxifying, and replenishing qi and nourishing yin are combined, together with our hospital's characteristic formulas such as Chuanyang San (sore and ulcer powder), Qingfei Formula, Qingchang Formula, Quhuo Tea and Shugan Jieyu Tea, and TCM characteristic therapies such as ear-tip bloodletting, auricular scraping and TCM herbal application, to relieve acute reactions such as radiation esophagitis, oral mucositis and skin injury and to reduce the incidence of radiation pneumonitis and enteritis; after radiotherapy, methods such as supporting the healthy qi and dispelling pathogenic factors, and softening hardness and dissipating masses are adopted to alleviate long-term reactions such as pulmonary and soft tissue fibrosis, while also reducing the risk of tumor recurrence and metastasis. At the same time, TCM characteristic therapies are applied to alleviate adverse reactions such as numbness of hands and feet, nausea and vomiting caused by concurrent chemotherapy and endocrine therapy.
Refining radiotherapy technology to safeguard the hope of life. Looking to the future, the Department of Radiation Oncology will adhere to putting patient health at the center and take improving comprehensive tumor diagnosis and treatment capacity as its goal, continuously promoting the coordinated development of medical care, teaching and research. Relying on the modern precision radiotherapy technology platform, the department will give play to the characteristic advantages of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine and continuously improve the precision, standardization and individualization of tumor diagnosis and treatment; at the same time, it will adhere to a people-oriented approach, optimize diagnostic and treatment processes, strengthen whole-course management and humanistic care, and strive to build a radiation oncology specialty with distinctive regional features, advanced technology, high-quality services and public trust. 【Department group photo】
