Pathology
The Pathology Department of Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, affiliated with Tongji University, was founded in 1965. It specializes in thoracic and pulmonary pathology, including lung cancer, granulomatous disease, pulmonary cytology and molecular pathology, with experience interpreting minimally invasive samples. It became a Shanghai thoracic specialty physician training base in 2013. Its molecular pathology laboratory has received Shanghai clinical laboratory assessment and recognition as a demonstration laboratory from the national pathology quality-control evaluation centre.
The department has four subspecialty areas: lung cancer and thymoma, cytopathology, molecular pathology and non-neoplastic disease. Its diagnostic platform combines morphology, immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology. The hospital reports 40 staff, including six senior and 15 intermediate professionals, one doctoral and one master's supervisor. It has held 14 national continuing medical education courses and received multiple awards for education, public communication, immunohistochemistry and PD-L1 interpretation.
According to the hospital, staff participate in professional committees and expert consensus on molecular diagnosis of lung cancer and tuberculosis pathology. The department has led nearly 10 clinical trials and nearly 20 research projects at bureau level or above, including three National Natural Science Foundation projects and nine provincial or ministerial projects. It reports over 100 papers, including more than 50 SCI papers, and one edited and 12 co-authored books.
