Pulmonary Circulation Department

The Pulmonary Circulation Department is one of the largest centers for the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary vascular diseases in China and has been certified as a member institution of the China Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Diagnosis and Treatment Center Standardized System Construction Project and as the lead institution of the Shanghai Demonstration Regional Collaboration Group for the Prevention and Treatment of Pulmonary Embolism and Pulmonary Vascular Diseases. It admits nearly 1,000 patients with pulmonary vascular diseases each year, and the scale of its diagnosis and treatment ranks among the highest nationwide. Its main scope of diagnosis and treatment includes: all types of pulmonary vascular diseases, especially pulmonary arterial hypertension, acute and chronic pulmonary embolism, and cor pulmonale, while also covering the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchiectasis. Routinely performed procedures include: the six-minute walk test, the cardiopulmonary exercise test, resting and exercise stress echocardiography, right-heart magnetic resonance imaging, right heart catheterization, pulmonary angiography, inferior vena cava filter implantation, balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA), percutaneous pulmonary artery thrombus aspiration, and other specialized diagnostic and treatment techniques.

All members of the Pulmonary Circulation team hold master's degrees or higher, and the proportion with doctoral degrees is as high as 75%; 7 hold senior professional titles, and 2 are associate research fellows; 2 are doctoral supervisors, and 7 are master's supervisors; 1 professor, 2 associate professors, and 2 specially appointed professors. The department undertakes more than 30 international multicenter drug clinical trial projects on pulmonary vascular diseases and conducts research on genetics, pathology and pathophysiology, pharmacology, and pulmonary function and respiratory physiology, among other areas, in relation to pulmonary vascular diseases. To date, it has published more than 100 SCI papers, with relevant scholarly works published in top international journals in this field, including AJRCCM, HYPERTENSION, ERJ, CHEST, among others; it has obtained 1 project under the National Key Research and Development Program, 9 National Natural Science Foundation of China projects, 2 Pujiang Talent Program projects, and 1 Yangfan Program project, and is a clinical department integrating medical care, teaching, and scientific research.
