Obstetric Endocrinology Subspecialty
The obstetric endocrinology subspecialty at Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Health Hospital was established in March 2019 and is committed to providing more professional and precise medical services for pregnant and postpartum women with endocrine- and metabolism-related diseases during pregnancy. Under the leadership of Professor Du Qiaoling, the academic leader of the discipline, the obstetric endocrinology team has established a series of diagnostic and treatment pathways for pregnancy complicated by thyroid disease, diabetes, obesity, and intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy. While advancing distinctive, refined, and individualized diagnosis and treatment, the team places pregnant and postpartum women at the center, continuously innovates its diagnostic and treatment models and optimizes its operating models, and has established a structure comprising the pregnancy endocrine and metabolism outpatient clinic, diabetes consultation outpatient clinic, pregnancy endocrinology MDT outpatient clinic, and obstetric endocrinology ward. It carries out a whole-course, online-and-offline patient management model of “outpatient clinic-ward-post-discharge treatment-follow-up-self-monitoring,” safeguarding the health of relevant pregnant and postpartum women throughout pregnancy.
The leader of this subspecialty, Du Qiaoling, is a doctoral supervisor at Tongji University and a chief physician; the team comprises 2 PhD holders, 3 master's degree holders, 1 doctoral postgraduate supervisor, 3 doctoral students currently enrolled, and 2 master's students; resident physicians, physicians in standardized training, and physicians undertaking further training rotate regularly. A talent echelon for the subspecialty is being established step by step, integrating the strengths of clinical physicians and postgraduate students in training, and a research framework has been built for diseases related to this subspecialty. Multiple provincial- and ministerial-level basic and clinical experimental studies have been conducted, continuously promoting and enhancing academic influence. Over the past three years, the team has obtained 3 provincial- and ministerial-level research projects and published more than 10 SCI papers.
