Cervical Disease Center

The Cervical Disease Center of Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital is a specialty professional department integrating clinical practice, scientific research and teaching. It has a cervical clinic, a colposcopy clinic, a laser special clinic, a refractory vaginitis clinic, a cervical vaccination clinic and an internet clinic. It specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the female lower genital tract, and over the years has actively carried out various diagnostic and therapeutic techniques including colposcopy, LEEP, laser and photodynamic therapy. It has reached the domestic first-class level in cervical cancer screening, laser treatment of intraepithelial neoplasia of the female lower genital tract, treatment of cervical precancerous lesions, early diagnosis of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions during pregnancy, the diagnosis, treatment and management of various complex and refractory vulvar diseases, and the treatment and prevention of various refractory vaginitis. At present, the outpatient volume is nearly 120,000 patient visits per year, the number of colposcopic examinations is 30,000 per year, the number of cervical conization surgeries is 2,000 cases per year, cervical laser treatment is 3,000 cases per year, and photodynamic therapy is 2,000 cases per year. There are currently 12 senior and intermediate full-time medical staff, all of whom are highly experienced gynecologists long engaged in the diagnosis and treatment of cervical diseases, including 7 associate chief physicians and 5 attending physicians, among whom there is 1 postdoctoral fellow, 1 PhD and 10 holders of a master's degree, as well as 6 full-time nurses. Members of the department are responsible for and undertake more than 10 projects, including those of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission and the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, have published more than 100 scientific research papers, including in Cell and Cell Reports Medicine, and have obtained 4 patents. There is currently 1 supervisor of master's degree students. More than 100 visiting doctors have been trained, with trainees spread all over the country. National-level cervical disease training courses have been held many times, and the department has participated in the compilation of “Practical Colposcopy Techniques”. The department's WeChat official account “First Maternity and Infant Hospital Cervical Department” has 15,000 followers. While popularizing common knowledge on the prevention and nursing of lower genital tract inflammation and diseases, it strives to build a new platform for doctor-patient communication and to enhance the department's influence. Among these, more than dozens of popular science articles have been reprinted by Rehabilitation Magazine, Life Times and other publications. It has won municipal-level science popularization awards many times.
