Obstetric Placental Disease Subspecialty
The Obstetric Placental Disease Subspecialty of Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Health Hospital was established in March 2019. Under the leadership of Professor Liu Xiaohua, the team is dedicated to placental diseases and has developed a complete standardized diagnosis and treatment process, including standardized prenatal examinations, adequate risk warning and assessment, thorough preoperative preparation, refined surgical techniques, and postoperative intensive care. The team effectively integrates specialists from obstetrics, gynecology, urology, intensive care, ultrasonography, radiology, hematology, laboratory medicine, and other departments to provide individualized monitoring and management for pregnant women with placental diseases. Uterine suturing procedures (B-Lynch suture, bilateral ascending uterine artery branch ligation, Hayman suture, etc.), Bakri balloon placement, interventional uterine artery embolization, uterine reconstruction, and other procedures are used for pernicious placenta previa, greatly reducing intraoperative and postoperative cesarean bleeding and lowering the rates of severe postpartum hemorrhage, massive transfusion, and hysterectomy.
The subspecialty has developed a mature clinical and research team, including two chief physicians, three attending physicians, two resident physicians, and several physicians in standardized training, specialty training, or advanced study. Team members have received rigorous and standardized training and education. The team leads multiple national and municipal research projects, has published dozens of SCI papers as first or corresponding authors, and actively applies research achievements in clinical practice.
Subspecialty features:
Pernicious placenta previa (with placenta accreta), vasa previa, a history of multiple cesarean sections, and a complex scarred uterus
