Andrology Department
The Andrology Department of the Tongji University Affiliated Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Health Hospital) is a subspecialty of the Reproductive Medicine Center, a member institution of the Standing Committee of the Reproductive Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and the lead institution of the Reproductive Andrology and Sperm Bank Management Group. The department has an annual outpatient volume of more than 60,000 visits, performs microsurgical sperm retrieval for azoospermia, fine-needle aspiration techniques, and other procedures, and has established a comprehensive system for male infertility. It can perform andrological ultrasound, routine semen analysis, sperm morphology assessment, sperm fragmentation testing, seminal plasma biochemistry, sperm membrane potential assessment, and other examination techniques, and has achieved nationally leading results, particularly in third-generation IVF treatment for infertility caused by male genetic factors. The department undertakes projects under the National Key R&D Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and others. It participated in formulating the diagnostic and treatment standards and guidelines of the Reproductive Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association.
