Radiotherapy

The Department of Radiation Oncology has 20 open beds, an annual outpatient volume of more than 6,000 visits, more than 600 cases of radiotherapy for malignant tumors annually, and more than 2,000 thousand chemotherapy cycles annually. The Department of Radiation Oncology focuses on common malignant tumors of the gynecologic tract, breast, and digestive tract, and has developed an MDT radiotherapy team with specialized expertise in cervical cancer, breast cancer, endometrial cancer, and other diseases. Our department is Shanghai’s first specialized department with a comprehensive radiotherapy system. It is equipped with internationally advanced linear accelerators, three-dimensional brachytherapy afterloading machines, and large-bore CT scanners, and routinely performs multiple types of image-guided radiotherapy.

As a training base for doctoral and master’s students in oncology/radiation oncology at Tongji University, the department’s ongoing research projects mainly focus on the microbiota and tumor pathogenesis, radiation/drug resistance, and artificial intelligence in radiotherapy. Six national-level and Shanghai municipal projects are currently underway, and research findings have been published in leading journals and publications, including AFM, Gut Microbes, the “Red Book” of radiotherapy, and the “Green Book.”
