Olympic Sports Campus – Hepatobiliary Surgery Department
On September 5, 2024, in accordance with the hospital's unified deployment of subdividing general surgery into sub-specialties and expanding and strengthening the hepatobiliary surgery specialty, the Hepatobiliary Surgery Department of the Olympic Sports Campus of the Provincial Hospital was officially established. The Hepatobiliary Surgery Department of Olympic Sports Hospital District has its roots in Shandong Provincial Hospital and has always adhered to the sacred mission of “respecting life, saving lives and healing the wounded”. Currently, it has 4 chief physicians, 3 deputy chief physicians, and 3 attending physicians, all of whom are doctors of medicine. Among them, there are 2 doctoral supervisors, 3 postdoctoral co-supervisors, 6 master supervisors, 1 young Taishan scholar, and 3 postdoctoral fellows. The department is responsible for undergraduate traineeship, internship and postgraduate training at Shandong University and Shandong First Medical University, as well as standardized training for surgical residents.
The department focuses on the full-course diagnosis, treatment and management of liver cancer, integrating various methods such as surgery, intervention (TAE, TACE, HAIC), radiofrequency ablation, cryoablation, yttrium-90 internal radiation and targeted immunotherapy to create diagnosis and treatment features based on the liver cancer-specific disease center model. On this basis, the business scope of the department covers standardized and precise diagnosis and treatment of liver, biliary tract, pancreas, duodenum, spleen and retroperitoneal related diseases. From open surgery to minimally invasive surgery, from classic surgery to precision surgery, from single surgery to systematic comprehensive treatment; the department can not only routinely perform laparoscopic complex surgeries on the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, and duodenum, but can also perform a series of highly difficult and complex surgeries including retroperitoneal inferior vena cava angiomyoma and ectopic pheochromocytoma. surgery; not only has it innovatively launched a new clinical technology project "Application of Partial Splenectomy in Distal Pancreatectomy" that preserves spleen function (has been selected as a National Health Commission Promotion Technology Project), providing patients with new hope of preserving the spleen, it has also created the first multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment (MDT) clinic for metastatic liver tumors in the province.
The Hepatobiliary Surgery Department of Olympic Sports Hospital took the lead in compiling the first domestic expert consensus on the multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma rupture and bleeding, and participated in the formulation of the Chinese expert consensus on the multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma combined with hepatic vein or inferior vena cava tumor thrombus, and the Chinese expert consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of neuroendocrine tumor carcinoid syndrome. There are 5 authoritative Chinese expert consensus and guideline standards, including Chinese Expert Consensus", "Chinese Expert Consensus on Standardized Late-Line Medication for Primary Hepatocellular Carcinoma", "Expert Consensus on Multidisciplinary Diagnosis and Treatment of Hepatocellular Carcinoma with Pulmonary Metastasis", and "China Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Combined with Portal Vein Tumor Thrombosis".
The Hepatobiliary Surgery Department of Olympic Sports Hospital is based on clinical work and carries out a large number of clinical research. The department pioneered and jointly conducted preliminary clinical reviews with multiple medical institutions in the province to verify a new treatment concept for rare pancreatic solid pseudopapillary tumors without lymph node dissection; carried out clinical research on CtDNA-assisted diagnosis of liver cancer and monitoring of liver cancer recurrence; carried out and continued to promote systemic treatment of initial unresectable liver cancer including hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) combined with targeted immunotherapy and yttrium-90 internal radiotherapy. and transformational therapy; carry out cohort exploratory research on individualized comprehensive treatment after standard treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma and related mechanism research; comprehensively carry out national-level clinical trial research projects such as comprehensive targeted immune treatment and research on cholangiocarcinoma and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors after surgery, research on interferon improving the prognosis of liver cancer, and real-world effectiveness and safety research on yttrium-90 for colorectal cancer liver metastases after the primary tumor has been removed.
The Hepatobiliary Surgery Department of Olympic Sports Campus is deeply involved in the pathogenesis and treatment optimization of liver cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, and pancreatic cancer. It conducts in-depth basic research on the molecular mechanism of hepatocellular carcinoma rupture, resistance to target immunotherapy and intervention strategies, and systematically promotes the transformation of basic research into clinical application. The department undertakes domestic and foreign projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the China-Singapore High-level Open Cooperation Project, and the Shandong Provincial Natural Science Foundation. Research results have been published in authoritative international journals such as Hepatology, Cell Reports Medicine, and Surgery, as well as a series of journals of the Chinese Medical Association.
Inheriting a century-old medical tradition, it shows the power of liver and gallbladder. The Hepatobiliary Surgery Department of Olympic Sports Campus will continue to adhere to the patient-centered approach, continuously improve the level of medical technology and comprehensive service capabilities, and strive to provide patients with better, more efficient, and more accurate diagnostic and treatment services.
