Neurosurgery

The Neurosurgery Department of Shandong Provincial Hospital was founded in 1960, among the province's earliest neurosurgical departments. Former leaders include professors Wang Xueqing, Song Yuxuan, Qu Yuanming, Pang Qi and Xu Guangming; the hospital identifies Professor Liu Yingchao as current director. It is a national key clinical specialty, has senior and young Taishan Scholar posts, is a core unit of the National Brain Tumor Registry Center, a key specialty of Shandong Province, Shandong medical and health services and Shandong University, a national residency and specialist training base, a Chinese Medical Doctor Association endoscopic skull-base training center and a national health authority neurosurgery advanced training base. The hospital reports particular experience with endonasal endoscopic treatment of skull-base tumors such as pituitary tumors and craniopharyngiomas.

The department has 53 full-time physicians, 70.6% with senior titles. Its staff include one national New Century Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Talent Program designee, one Ministry of Health outstanding young or middle-aged expert, one State Council special allowance recipient and two Taishan Scholar experts including a young scholar. It has four doctoral, 13 master's and three postdoctoral co-supervisors and has trained more than 100 doctoral and master's students. Six subspecialty groups cover neuro-oncology, cerebrovascular disease, spine and spinal cord disease, functional neurosurgery, neurotrauma and pediatric neurosurgery.

The hospital describes experience in stereotactic biopsy and intracranial tumor removal, endoscopic skull-base surgery and the spine and spinal cord subspecialty, which founded and chairs the Shandong Medical Doctor Association's neurosurgical spine and spinal cord branch. It also reports growing functional neurosurgery activity and multidisciplinary care with neurology for Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders. The department emphasizes patient-centered care and medical quality.
