Bone and Joint Department
The Orthopedics and Joint Department of Shandong Provincial Hospital is among the province's earlier independent specialties for systematic joint disease care. It focuses on standardized diagnosis and treatment of major joints such as the hip and knee and complex joint reconstruction, combining clinical care, research, teaching and academic exchange.
It has one ward at the central campus and three at the Olympic Sports campus, with 93 open beds. Its 21 physicians include four chief and eight associate chief physicians; all hold medical doctorates. The hospital describes a team led mainly by younger and middle-aged specialists.
Hip and knee replacement are principal techniques, with a substantial proportion of complex operations. The department reports experience in total hip replacement for Crowe type IV congenital hip dysplasia and severe bone loss, as well as hip and knee prosthesis revision and repeated revision. It emphasizes standardized perioperative management and enhanced recovery for complex cases.
Research addresses degenerative joint disease, prosthesis revision and related biological mechanisms. The team has secured more than ten general projects from the National Natural Science Foundation, combining clinical strengths with basic and translational research. It trains visiting and residency physicians and regularly holds joint replacement and complex surgery courses, demonstrations and academic meetings for orthopedic specialists. It has hosted visiting orthopedic physicians from countries including Pakistan and Tanzania for academic exchange.
